One perfect example is environments.

Initially, Gears of War has environments that make Halo 3 cry.

But if you look closer (and mind you, i'm only referring to the BETA here), the water in gears is next to non-existent as far as effort goes. The water in Halo 3 not only looks spectacular, it responds to interaction.

The grass in Halo 3 sways in the wind, and responds to you stepping on it (going by the updates on Bungie.com). I don't even recall seeing grass in Gears.

The lighting in Halo 3 will put Gears to shame, and Halo 3 WON'T have the overabundance of bump-mapping Gears 'suffers' from. ie characters won't have that plasticy shiny look, they do in gears.

Halo 3 is going to be more advanced, it just may not...appear that way without some looking.
the water in Halo 3 is FANTASTIC.
I went swimming at a friends house a few days after playing the beta a lot, and I realized how close it was to being real, and the water in gears is...mehh, half life 2 quality.

Not sure, but they hinted that there'll be close to 9 in the final game.

All will be in the SP but some will be missing from the MP.

A remote mine would be good, for both SP AND MP. Gun turret like PDZ that tracks enemies, would be great for both.
