I think one of the most "core" games would have to be C&C.

Was thinkin of Tiberian Dawn... but sure, RA ftw. C&C3, ok but not as godly as the others.... Fack generals.

It's not bad, but CnC3 simply isn't as good as it should be (RA2).

The definition of hardcore isn't as well-defined as that, but if two or more of those rules hold you've got a match that I'm sure there are some people who agree with.
Didn't we have this discussion in a thread a while ago? btw, rhythm games are not hardcore.
