said best buy had 2 wii's

i'm not too into getting a wii though... there were a lot of folks checking out PS3's, but nobody buying one. 600 bucks is still a bit much...

of all 3 displays, only one being played was guitar hero II on the 360 display...

I just like going to the stores to get a little snapshot of the state of things...
I do think that the price drop, HDMI/new version 360 w/ better cooling, and Halo3/Bioshock are adding up to move a few systems for them.

I picked up the 60gigPS3 on the table, i was so ready to run off with it they even had everything kinda close to the door b/c of the renovating and needing space.... sigh. that's about the only way i'd ever get one, but my 360 will keep me busy....

How much would you like to wager that Xbox 360 sales receive a noticeable increase from the release of Halo 3?

For a while it will be Wii, 360, PS3, with the 360 getting better sales the closer it gets to Chrisy.

It's funny how the PS3 needed a $100 price drop to barely beat the XBox 360 for the first, and most likely last month in the consoles short history. Too bad most people who bought it will probably return it.

"Where are the games? What! The XBox 360 is cheaper and is getting more games which just happen to be better in every aspect including game play, graphics and fun!"

I bet many of those PS3s are returned by people who recognize that the PS3 is a poor excuse for a game console.

I don't see the Wii getting a lot of returns, and it has an even poorer game library than the PS3 (sorry Nintendudes, but it's true at least for now until the Big 3 arrive).

People didn't return their Xbox 360s much because of lack of games in its first year either despite it also having a relaively sucky launch lineup.

You logic fails.

Most people don't return their game consoles unless they bought it for a reason other than to actually use it.

I highly doubt there are many people who just walk into the store and say "Cool, a $500 gaming system. I'm buying it". Most people who spend that much on something usually don't do it blindly, and then wait a month or so and decide nothing has come out in that time they like, and then return the system.

I own 9 Wii games, all of which I would buy again, and 0 disc PS3 games, the only two out of the current lineup that I'm even remotely interested in being Oblivion, which has a fuller edition coming out soon, and VF5, which has a fuller edition coming out....eventually.

PSN store is very sexy though, and later this year I'm going to buy several PS3 games on disc, but still, Nintendo's had a much better first year than Sony has as far as software goes.

360 sales were starting to stagnate a while back and the PS3 had the buzz last month.

I could see it happening.

To be honest both the PS3 and 360 sales in July are poor.

There was no real reason to buy a 360 in July, people suspected a price drop was in the near future and no great game releases (some thought a price drop was going to be announced at E3).

Personally i think the competition for 2nd place is all about momentum, the PS3 has just gathered some but how is it going to keep it up over the coming months (espeicially now the reduced price models are all but faded out)? I think M$ have decided to wait until their great period of game releases to announce this drop, they must be hoping they can then surf this wave of interest through until atleast Jan 08 to make full use of momentum, i think Sony were just happy to get SOME momentum. By which time, although the 360 will be trailing the Wii, they might have such a significant lead over the PS3 that 2nd place will have been decided.

Whats worth thinking about is that although Nintendo have done an incredible job with the Wii the 360 has a far superior software adoption rate. This will ensure that even if it falls well behind the Wii it will continue to have a great games library. The Wii, for all its publicity / great sales, has a far inferior game adoption rate. Infact, all the biggest sellers on the Wii have been Nintendo games.

The only thing encouraging game developers on the Wii is the cheaper development cost. I think the 360 gives a much higher %% chance of hitting (or getting near) a million game sales if your releasing a quality new IP title than either the Wii or the PS3 - i think Bioshock, Mass Effect and Assassins Creed (predicting 360 sales to far eclipse PS3 sales) will show this.

What are your thoughts?
