Bah, at least Nintendo will keep us on the edge with their awesome policies toward 3rd party software developers. Oh, wait...

Well, I've been thinking about it while at work, and If I HAD to pick ONE of the 3 to be the sole manufacturer, it would be MS (please leave me alone X).

Think about it. MS has the software and online side won hands down this gen. This would only improve/remain constant whcih = good for us.

The slew of awesome games would only continue/grow by default.

The only downside to MS is hardware, and if they were the sole manufacturer, that problem would disappear due to the fact they wouldn't be rushing a console out without designing it properly. Not to mention they could get someone else to simply build better hardware anyway.

Where as Sony and Nintendo have both shown they don't care much about 3rd parties both in the past AND currently (Nintendo MORE past, and Sony more present), they both don't care about online, and Nintendo CLEARLY doesn't care about games.

Why give either of them the chance to abuse this further? Of course MS would find something to abuse/rape us on like accessory prices. If MS was the sole manuf. accessory prices would rise further guaranteed.

$300 20GB HDD confirmed.

The link said that it would require numerous companies to have input, so Microsoft (although, why you'd pick a software company for hardware is beyond me) wouldn't have full control and final say. Sony or Nintendo for hardware, or even outsourced to one of the other companies listed.

Let Microsoft do what they do best software and online.

Let Nintendo attract the casual crowd with alternative controls and the big three.

Let Sony work on firmware and their first party games.

Of course if they were working together, then sweet.

But the assumption would be that they probably WOULDN'T work together.

yeah no way they would work together. Besides it would be like use Microsoft points to get this cool dashboard theme! You need Sony Points for the Killzone 3 demo! They would all still try to be as independant as possible.

Yeah, the assumption in the article was that Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft would be working together along with Toshiba, Samsung, Sharp and Dell, because it would also be focusing on eliminating PC gaming so all gaming is under the one system.

Since that could never, ever happen... that said, I'd like to see the result, but I'm oddly getting the image of the console looking like this:

No thanks. People who believe in perfect markets or even perfect models are idiots who refuse to understand what the word "pragmatic" means.

It's a VERY important word. I'll keep my 2/3/4 console market.

edit: MS makes TERRIBLE hardware. Ignoring the x360 and xbox 1, you can find TONS of other products that are absolute garbage the first couple of generations. Some of them are results from poor driver support (on Windows )

If Sony made the hardware, Microsoft did the online service, and Nintendo made the accessories, with all 3 contributing software, I'd buy it.
