Option 1 isn't a dream. It will sell through at least 1.6 million on the first day.
Come on the PS3 will be at 2 million by the time halo comes out. and look at the installbases halo 2 had more consoles play on. halo sold as many copies of 2 as they had people online. with the 360 they don't tell you how many are paying for it they include the silver membership in thier numbers the first Xbox did only had one membership and you paid for it. another thing is that they all had hardrives. it does not make sense to compare the two. you have several 360's out there that do not have harddrives. I know that MS has been marketing the heck out of it. but I am still not buying over 1.5 mill on the first day. to much to compete with. Bioshock just came out. and acording to this forum it RULES. first month maybe, first week is a Miracle, first day not happening.

its interesting that you expect halo 3 to surpass the LTD for all but one 360 game in the first day or week.

source on halo 2 selling 2.4 mill in the US on first day? forget it I found it.

The Halo franchise has grown significantly through each iteration, around 32% to be somewhat precise from H1 to H2. That means there is a higher attach rate per console per iteration. Now if there was no increase in the fanbase, then we should expect around 1.63 million games sold in the first 24 hours. Obviously that won't be the case, and we should expect a higher sell-through. Because of this (now this is a pretty linear calculation and doesn't really represent all the variables, but enough to give us a pretty good idea), since the fan base has grown 32%, then we should expect around 2.16 million copies of Halo 3 within the first 24 hours. This is all dependent on how many copies are shipped for the initial launch. Although it's a rough calculation, it does show that it is absolutely possible for Halo 3 to sell through 2 million copies.

umm the installbase grew from Halo 1 to 2 as well so it would make sense that the second sold more as there were more consoles to play it one out in the world. when halo 2 came out there was 12 million xboxes in peoples homes in the US. and it sold 2.5 first day. well now there are 7million and so I figure if it keeps the momentum of H2 (NOW ONLINE PLAY) oh but wait the last one had that. so what are people loving about it now? 4 player coop ONLINE? nope they killed that. see so that is what I am basing my arguement on. its the same as before no new HUGE bells or whisles. I mean yes its got new stuff but not like 2 did.

You are basing your arguments on a "dead" online coop? Explain to me how its dead. Also, explain to me how forge isn't going to make a HUGE impact on the community? Explain to me how the new maps, new weapons and vastly improved matchmaking system isn't going to make an impact? Explain to me how the improved graphics, the exponentially increased scope and the improvements to the controls won't make an impact. I'm basing my predictions off of numbers. You're basing your predictions off of thin air.

No I am basing mine off of actual numbers. if the 360 has half the userbase then its not going to sell close to as many games on the first day. you are listing things that are expected in most sequels. They are not reasons to buy a game you would not normally buy. Online coop would have been HUGE so that is why I listed it. Better graphics YEAH IT BETTER HAVE THEM!. new maps. its a POS if it doesn't. so that stuff is not a reason to try a new game that is a reason to get the new version of the one you already have.

Actually, its sitting at around 68-69% of the userbase, but i guess taking off almost 20 percent works for you. Are you really going to try to argue that Halo 3 will not bring in people who haven't bought Halo CE or Halo 2? I really hope you aren't. I thought you were smarter than that. Fact of the matter is that the numbers are saying that it has a possibility of selling through 2 million on day one. You can argue until you are blue that there won't be an increased attach rate, but you're just kidding yourself.

Actually its 58 percent 7 million in the US now and 12 million when H2 came out.
I am not saying that it will not bring new players. I am saying it will not bring the butt load that H2 brought. and I don't think forge is all that great. its a map editor without the map making in it. you get to move stuff on a map that they create. and this is really MS trying to draw in the PC crowd.

but hey we will see in 20 days won't we.

Day 1, mark my words. Halo has the hugest fanbase ever, not to mention all the hype surrounding it, including a drink, a BK meal, a car, and an ARG. I would say 2.5 mill tops

Best response to this question came from another forum. I will share it here.
