I heard that Halo 3's AI is really good. I was listening to Bungie's podcast and Lars (multiplayer map designer) was playing campaign on Sierra 117. While playing he is a fighting a couple of Brutes and right before he kills both, one of them deploys a bubble shield. His shields being low, along with ammo and no grenades, he decides to get in the bubble shield for protection (unknown to him, he forgot to kill one brute who has a brute shot or a gravity hammer, I can't remember which). So here he is waiting for his shields to recharge when the last Brute shows up, the Brute doesn't rush in to try and kill Lars, however, but instead it stands outside the shield waiting for it to collapse. It was a melancholy moment because Lars is just standing there looking at the Brute as it is just waiting there, staring back at him, he knows he is gonna die.
Eventually, Lars gets fed up with waiting and simply rushes out of the bubble shield and charges at the Brute; and of course he gets killed.

Sounds fun.

Yeah Halo has always had fairly good AI..but ive listened to all the podcasts...and one has a long section just on AI...all I have to say is bububu teh cell. What some of those guys were saying, from a design side, and from their own actualy experences and stories they were telling...the damn people who designed the AI in the game were amazed at what it was doing.

Like he was kicking a group of brutes asses...so one of them droped a bubble shield and they all went in it, then another droped a recharged inside it, and healed all of his alies, then just before the shield droped another one tossed out a flare, blined the player, and another one tossed an energy drainer. So the player was blind, and had no shield, and the brutes had just healed themselves...talk about smart AI.
