| Please, too all of you members who keep going on about Gears looking soo much better than Halo 3. Allow me to do my best to educate. I'm also going to use Resistance in my explanation because this games graphics dont get the praise they actually deserve. Gears of War has been designed with immediate WOW factor in mind. It looks great, no question, but do many of you know how this whole process works. When a game is being made, EVERYTHING can and does have an impact on the graphics. Physics, AI, sound, draw distance, resolution, AA (or lack of), frame rate. It al counts. Gears of War has sacrificed MANY of those things to get the look it has. It has zero draw distance, almost the WHOLE game is basically set inside, and even the "outdoor" areas are arenas of some sort to close them off. The team AI is dumb as dogshit, and aside from some flanking here and there, the enemy AI isn't much better. There is VERY little to speak of when it coms to physics. It doesn't have much in that area. There's plenty of clipping, NO water effects or physics, and it all runs at only 30fps (with plenty of chugs and dips) at 720p. Halo 3 is MASSIVE in scale. A large portion of the game takes place in GIANT outdoor plains and battlefields, all while OTHER battles rage in the background. The draw distance iis near limitless due to Bungie using ACTUAL GEOMETRY for the draw distance and the objects in it. This would be very taxing, as I'm hoping Power666 or Icemage can attest to. The physics are fine tuned right down to even the fire from explosions and the flame thrower behaving like real fire would. THE water supposedly rivals that of Bioshock, and the enemy AI is meant ot be top notch. As is the team AI. Hell, the team AI in Halo 1 is better than Gears. The lighting is supposed to be some of the best seen in a console game, and Gears doesn't use it too much. Mind you, all of this runs SMOOTHLY at 30fps and in 1080p. All this is forgetting the fact that the art style in Halo 3 is COMPLETELY different to Gears'. Resistance is a great example of an awesome and stable graphics engine. There is little to NO clipping, and it all runs smooth as silk, even while there's MASSIVE outdoor battles going on. Again, the AI is Resistance to me is more advanced than in Gears. As I said, if you look a bit depper than the surface, you'll see that's there's a lot more to Halo 3 (and Resistance) than it first seems. Halo 3 can NEVER look like Gears. If you allowed Epic to create Halo 3 using the UE3 with EVERYTHING Bungie included (that means physics, AI, draw distance, 1080P, 30fps locked and all the rest) Halo 3 would look MAYBE the same, if not worse. I wish more of you could understand that. |
