I don't think traditional gamers have been forgotten about by Nintendo. I'm excited about a few Wii games coming up. What I am afraid of is how Motion Sensing will change traditional gaming. Some of my favorite games and franchises could not be done or done well with the Wiimote and the nunchuck.

What I was trying to say is that I hope Sony and Microsoft will not go full Motion Sensing next-gen to try and copy Nintendo. I fear that my favorite franchises would be changed too much to fit into a new control scheme.

And while the Wii still has "hardcore" games on the horizon, it has shown that the "casual" gamers are a formidable force. And seeing as how money is the greatest motivator, I worry about gaming companies turning more "casual" friendly.

And also I just said that the fear was there, it is most likely irrational but I still can't help but fall victim to it when I see the sales numbers on some of the more casual friendly games.

well luckily, alot of the big games coming out have at least figured out if motion sensing will help at all, SSBB isnt using motion sensing, and Fire Emblem has just gone out and said, you HAVE to use classic or GCN to play.....

Hardware isn't everything what matters is creativity in making games.

And as people have said before the motion sensing of the Wii is nothing new technology wise but in the console market Nintendo is the only company that tries something new instead of being conservative (15-20 years ago Nintendo was that conservative force in the console market and we all know how well that worked out).

Also Wii is doing something to the console market that neither the Xbox, PS2, Xbox360 and PS3 has managed to do. Not only does it sell to a large casual audience it also is bringing back people that stopped playing games on consoles a long time ago and migrated to PCs or completely stopped playing games. This because of a new way of input. The d-pad way of input is 25 years old NOTHING has happened except more buttons in these 25 years. (analog sticks is a step about as big as when PC FPS gamers switch from ball mice to optical).

And also my prediction is that the game library for Wii will in time look like the one for DS. There will be plenty to choose from for every type of gamer "hardcore" as well as casual.

BTW you may call me a Nintendo fanboy but trouth be told I don't even own a Wii (yet)
Get a Wii before preaching the wonders of motion sensing. The novelty wore off for me after a month or two.

I just love how Wiitards read into every post I make. I correct a guy trying to say that the Wii is powerful to some small extent, and I get the usual Wiitard rant about how this wonderous motion sensing is getting grandmas to play games, and this somehow affects how good the console is.

i have been thinking the exact same thing, and if that does happen it would definately ruin gaming for me. i would probably just stick to a pc if that happened

because, what happens if there is no more analog? and more and more casuals start playing, and eventually the majority of gamers are casuals, and then companys stop making hardcore games because of less profit????!!???!11?!?1

im paranoid

You are not paranoid, just worry too much about the future of gaming.

read th op man, why do you think the wii will do this, when the DS did the same thing and took handhelds to a whole new level of popular while still keeping old gamers happy. this is nintendo we are talking about, they were the ones that SAVED gaming after the crash in the early 80's, they have been at it for a LONG time, i dont think they would do something that would destroy the foundation of gaming

Just look at how the PSP is doing because of the DS. The Wii could do the same thing to the 360 and PS3. Though, part of the PSP's lack in games is lack in developer interest. So, maybe. i antz no!
