LOL! I'm not trying to be too rigid about this. I suppose I just don't agree with 3 million sitting on shelves. Most places I go that sell 360's have them all out for everyone to see and usually don't have more than a few total.

There's no point talking about numbers until the Christmas numbers are out. The problem with 360 numbers is UK + France which is a big chunk of the EU market have only sold slightly more than 2 million 360s + ~500k in Japan and probably about 10 million in US by now doesn't look good. I honestly don't know where these other sales are coming from.

I'm seeing #'s for the 360 at 2 million for the UK alone - not including France or anywhere else.

Plus, all of those other countries add up: German, Italy, Australia, etc.
Who knows though.

As long as we're within 10%, I think we'll be good. But I wasn't criticizing the #'s.

Uh... Those numbers are wrong or the Wii is doing absolutely bloody fantastic because the Wii has over taken the 360 in the UK. The Wii hasn't sold 2 million this year. I'm sure Chart-Track will publish some numbers soon so wait for that.

I agree with rounds on this one.

Europe (not EU but Europe) has a population of approx. 730 million people I think it's a bit to hefty to only count UKs and Frances sales and then state that the rest doesn't matter.
Surely UK, France probably are among the top economies in Europe and host a big part of the population (UK approx. 60 million and France approx. 65).

Also I have read elsewhere that Germany is supposed to be the biggest video games consumer in Europe (but maybe that was more towards PC I don't remember)

What I'm trying to say is don't be so fast to just dismiss the rest of Europe.

UK is by far the biggest console gaming country in europe, and France is by far second. for reference, the wii is selling like 10k a MONTH in other countries in europe, thats pretty well minimal.....

I didn't say they don't matter but outside of Western Europe, the amount of people who can afford consoles or where gaming is even a viable past time is tiny. UK has over 1.5million 360s sold, France has 500k, Germany has around 300k, Iberia is Sonyland (seriously, even the Wii is getting pwned by the PS3 there) and I'm not sure about Scandinavia. Sure, even if Sweden and Norway (Finland is very PC gaming oriented from what I've been told by some Finns I used to know) has good sales of 360s they would only add another 1-1.5 million together unless they were pumping out miracle numbers for their population size. EU sales start off slow because of high taxes and costs but after some price drops (as seen by the PS3) the sales boom.

They all play PC games. Their console sales aren't even at 500k this gen yet.

I think you'll find I'd be one of the first to speak out about anyone dismissing Europe but the 360 sales aren't good.

Ok may very well be that UK and France are top dogs in video gaming.

but let's say that the other countries only sell 10 000 Wiis a month and Europe consist of 48 countries --> gives 46 (-UK,France)*10 000 = 460 000 Wiis /months. While not a massive number it's still a number that shouldn't be dismissed. (everything of course in my very subjective personal opinion )

EDIT:// I'm not defending the 360 numbers only I'm speaking in more general terms, I just thought that you shouldn't all hack and slash rounds1 down trough the ground for his statement

Yeah I see your point but it's just not true. If those countries were actually buying 10k Wii/360/PS3 a month then yeah, it would be significant but they aren't... Yet. I say yet because the economies in the eastern block are generally improving and well, in the next generation or two they will become a more significant factor. This map proves my point though.

See what massive drop in GDP from Western Europe and Eastern Europe? That's why the arguement that there are 750m - 1billion people in Europe comes flat on it's face. The real number of population who actually have the disposible income to buy video games is probably somewhere around 300 million, just like the US.
