I think CoD4 should be up there - especially for a multi-plat game.
Yeah, it is even on the ds and phone? HAHA!
Halo 3 graphics won't win anything. I do admit the lighting is incredible though.

I'm telling you...CoD4's up there with Gears in terms of visuals. Gears definitely gets the nod for character models, but I don't know about the environments. I dare say CoD's are better looking.

I'm not a graphics guy, but Gears looks fantastic.

Art direction goes to Bioshock (I don't think the graphics are that great but rather how the portrayed the environment). For older games RE4 and REmake looked fantastic on the cube. Panzer Dragoon anything (even Orta) looked fabulous for the time and still does. Super Mario RPG for the SNES blew my mind when I saw it as a kid. LttP was beautiful too.

If we're talking Gears on 360 versus CoD4 on PS3, then I think Gears gets the nod for better character models and prettier architecture, but Call of Duty 4 is by far the most hyper-realistic shooter I've ever seen on a console, with some truly incredible lighting and textures to die for.

I don't have the PS3 version of CoD4...obviously.

From the vids I've seen, they're basically the same though. At least, I couldn't see much difference.

But I think CoD should get +'s for looking so good, AND being multi-plat. That sort of thing is rare.

You're right about the lighting, too...the snow levels are especially amazing.

Yeah, the snow levels have to be seen in person to be believed. They look incredible - so real you could reach into your screen and touch the cement.
