Default Nintendo hates risk?

I was gonna say, creativity, but then, I would really misuse the word. How can a company that brought us all these original games, be lacking in creativity? Perhaps the answer is that Nintendo hates risk?

Well, some might argue that the radical approach with the Wii and DS was extremely risky. I say think again: the real risk would be invoked if Nintendo adopted the conventional ways and tried to go head to head with Sony and MS. They know they failed with the 'Cube attempt, and they know they might end just like SEGA.

What really concerns me is new titles. I feel like Nintendo can do more, but it doesn't, it focuses on the big IPs it got. Well, I do appreciate the originality of each new title of the same series, but this is not enough, Nintendo should explore new areas, we know it can do better. I'm not saying Nintendo doesn't at all, I'm saying they should try harder.

What really makes a system a winner, whether a console or a handheld, is the games it offers. Raw power, or innovative new ways of input, are more of things that help making the job easier. They are, and others, important factors, but the ultimate factor is simply GAMES.

Nintendo is doing greatly financially, they have the ability to acquire new studios, and establish new ones. With the big possibility that it will take such action, I hope Nintendo will focus on the latter. The simple calculation that 10+1=11 not as useful as it may seem. MS bought Rare, not much of great potential. It happened before with many MNCs, especially American car makers, in order to expand, and they ended selling what they tookover. There is this bright Japanese approach in the case of Lexus and Infinity brands which were started from the scratch, and proved to be successful.

Nintendo should work on bringing new IPs. Again, it is true that, despite the classics are being commercialised to maximise profit, the originality of each title is preserved. Yet there is no excuse to not to focus more on bringing new titles, especially that Nintendo has the capability to do so. We have some completely new titles here and there, but we need more. We need more of Pikmin and Eternal Darkness.

The DS was not supposed to be the direct successor to the GBA but it turned out that way. The Wii remote started off as an add-on for the GameCube.

There are several hardware projects going on at all times inside Nintendo that never get released. So far they've scrapped at least two GameBoy designs. They even had a HD capable console that was scrapped in favor of the Wii and its lower price point.

Nintendo isn't afraid of risk but rather they plan their moves in the market conservatively and take risks when they have to. They are a company based solely on video games and cannot take the same financial beating as its two main competitors in the market. Sony and MS both has other sources of cash so that they can sell their products at a loss for extended periods of time.

The same principle holds true for software as it does hardware. Sequels will sell. It is a conservative approach to making money in this business. I do think that there is going to be some new Nintendo IP this generation but it'll arrive well into the future. Nintendo didn't want to put resources into such titles so close to launch as they didn't know how successfully the Wii was going to be.

"Well into the future?"

Come february all of Nintendo's big ip's will be on the shelf, surely the next year of Nintendo releases aren't going to be direct sequels of the games we just got!

Should be obvious.

I don't see Microsoft or Sony making new games, besides Halo and God Of War. Leave Nintendo alone, they are more risky than the two billion dollar giants; that whipe 100 dollars bills to clean there ass. The risky people awards go to the 3rd party which always randomly make completly new genres and ips.

Hurray for me!

I'm just saying, that Nintendo have gone the route that they know which of their games sell, so they give the people what they want. I'm sure once they get past Christmas, they'll start announcing more innovative titles and new IPs. Microsoft and Sony have money to waste on developing new IPs and giving lots of time advertising them no matter how much they suck, like Lair.

How do we know Nintendo isn't working on new IPs? The problem is, people like to buy games they already know at least a little about, and that means sequels will usually sell more than the new stuff, especially when the new stuff doesn't ressemble stuff that already exist.

Plus, we all know how much Nintendo loves to surprise us with stuff. I'm sure that whenever a new IP is ready (or like 80% into development), only then we'll know about it.

Nintendo really is getting closer and closer to the point where they need some sort of totally new game. With more and more people saying that they're just falling back on their established franchises and that maybe motion sensing isn't as great as it looked a year ago, they really need to come out with some big new game which fully showcases just how far motion sensing can carry a game. They've had a year and must be getting a good idea of what works, and what doesn't so now is getting to be the time where they put something out there that will shut people up with their complaints and if they want to prove that motion sensing was a good idea.

I can wait a while longer - once the Marios/Zeldas etc have been released - for New IP.

But seriously, the majority of new IPs (from any companies) are the same old games we (at least I) have been playing for years. Which so many people seem happy with, i'm not . When Nintendo releases new IP i'm hoping it actually will be NEW.

I had high hopes that motion sensing (even the tilt on PS3) would bring something new - so far only glimpses of it. Still, i'll try not to give up hope!
