I find people who require a number or a buy/don't buy funny in that sad, 'they actually exist?' kind of way...

Some people don't live in their mother's basement and have all the time in the world to read multiple reviews before making a decision; which is why a numerical rating system determined by logical reasoning would be the best choice.

How about a brief summary? A number alone isn't going to tell you what you need to know. What might you like? What might you not like? Honestly, I think a small summary block will be more informative than a number.

You know, although I didnt appreciate it so much before, Im starting to relike Gamepro's review system, sine they kinda use a star system, and instead of giving an actual "overall" rating they give it to graphics, sound, gameplay, and fun factor. Though Sound I think could be bundled with graphics, I otherwise agree with this system more and more lately.

I think I'll buy a gamepro sometime soon, god its been nearly 7 years...

Then you're able to o up on metacritic and see the general consensus. I mean the number do have a use. I see what you're saying, but they can be useful for some people.

I like it the way it is, its nice to see where a game sits compared to the other games.

Swapping to 1-5 with half stars is the same as 1-10. This thread is stupid.

I think part of the problem with game reviews is that it is hard to compare them from one game to another. It can mostly be attributed to the fact that the industry is based on review sites instead of the reviewers. Basically that means there is very little uniformity of reviews even when they're on the same site, because everyone is going to have their own opinion or likes and dislikes. We really need more information on who is reviewing the game as well, be it a reviewer rating system, or just a list of the different genres and games that they like so you can use that to determine any bias that is in their scores.

Scores should be replaced with "buy if you like..." and "don't buy if you like..." It really can't get any clearer than that for wanting to buy a game.

Not really because the star system works differently. Where 3 stars is considered okay, a 6.0 is not.

True, but there are some games out there that are fun as heck, but are beaten pretty quick (i.e. Lego Star Wars) therefore a game like that could be recommended as a rental or don't buy just because of its shortness, that's not really fair.
