Should cheaters be blocked?

I got a call from my bud today with interesting news. It's old news but I'm posting it anyway. Apparently the last firmware update on his Wii blocked him from using his Gamecube Action Replay on it.

Personally I don't own any cheat devices so this one doesn't affect me. But it looks as if Nintendo plans on blocking the use of cheat devices and freeloaders. It could lead to all three of the big consoles blocking Datel's products.

On one hand, it could be good because it'll force people to actually play the games, beat them legitimately, and actually work for their supper. It'll also prevent cheaters from ruining online play, which is perhaps more important.

On the other hand, people can argue that they paid for their consoles and should be able to do as they wish with them without Nintendo or others using firmware updates to control how the console is played.

The question here is, do you think cheaters should be blocked completely or allowed to play as they wish? I think they should only block cheating online myself, but I'm curious as to what everyone thinks about this.

I'd love to hear Nintendo's logic behind this one.

And I really don't know where to go with this joke because it's completely beyond me why they would do this. Everything has a reason though, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

As for cheating online, I think it's hilarious when people's testicles retract into their body when they get angry over a videogame, and really don't care one way or another.

I thinks cheating while online should not be allowed but if your playing SP then you should be able to do as you wish. I do like the way MS does it if you cheat no more achievements on that game for you! but that doesnt apply to N and Sony since they dont offer achievemnts. one thing is for sure if consoles didnt allow for cheating devices Rockstar would have completely missed all the hot coffee heat.

What's interesting is that Datel plans on making an Action Replay for Wii. I can't wait to see the war that starts between Nintendo and Datel when Nintendo decides to block it. Gonna be a lot of pissed off consumers that bought one.
