They should, but then again, Microsoft aren't a hardware company, they (intelligently) paid a respected company to make a design for a console and it's been a somewhat disasterous effort.

that article said everything that has been resting in the back of my mind the whole time ive been trying to get a 360. i already decided that i will ONLY get a falcon, no matter what, but the thought of having to send it in in the off chance it breaks and getting a xenon back, is quite disturbing. i wonder if there is any way for me to make them fix MY console and ship that exact one back, if i tell them speed is not as important as getting my falcon back

2 xbox 360 consoles have broken on me, I'm waiting for another console from them.

Sony did'nt give you anything for your console breaking out of warranty because

1 - it was out of warranty

2 - Sony Ps2 did not have a failure rate of 30%

3 - Sony were not in any threat of a massive lawsuit against them like Microsoft were. Microsoft had no choice but to extend the warranties for their consoles

Anyway, dies anyone know the failure rate of the Wii, I no 4 people who have had send their wii back to Nintendo.
2 were disk read errors on all games, other Wii would not power up, other one caught fire(although i believe that is to do with the electricals of the house it was begin played at)

5years or 6 years with my PS2. I'm still on the same one I bought...never have any problems. It's just slow at reading discs at the very beginning...poor thing is old.

look if exspensive electronics didnt have a habbit of failing/exsploding/getting lost/being made by sony/being a george forman grill/failing due to being made by sony, they wouldn't be expensive

Sony's warrenty was 60 days from purchase. The DDE was a MASSIVE error that plauged more then 30% of PS2s, however Sony will not admit it. MS wasn't being threatened to be sued. there was talk that they should, but MS recognized the problem and changed the warrenty to 3 years if it RRoD's They didn't have to do this. Even consoles that went out of warrenty (original 1 year) are covered. Sony could have and should have done the same with the PS2. But they wanted more sales.

As for Wii errors, mine is on its way to Nintendo right now... freaking WiiConnect24 overheat issue. It is starting to become more frequent, kinda like the RRoD after a year with the 360. Lets see what happens come the next 6 months or so with Wii. Ps3 however is chugging along just fine.

must be the area i'm living in, because it was rare when i heard someones ps2 had died on them, but with the 360 Ido not no anyone who still has one that has not been sent back to microsoft.

I will say this again: Anything with a moving part will eventually fail. All Xbox 360's, PS3's, PS2's, Wii's etc. will all eventually suffer the fate of failure due to a moving part. The bigger question is of when rather than if.

Most disk read errors on the PS2 cropped up after a year or two of purchase and people were actually able to get some use out of their system. (Wasn't the PS2 warranty different depending on region?). The PS2's disk read error cropped up over time and is something that'd be hard to catch while developing the system. Considering the problem, the disk read errors on the PS2 mimicked massive use but far accelerated. Yeah, it sucks that the PS2's warranty was out before the problem occurred but it was at least failing out of warranty.

The Xbox 360 failures were occuring while under warranty. MS extended the warranty to 3 years in an effort to avoid a class action lawsuit. While MS is fixing these problems under warranty, they have some protection from such lawsuits. It has cost MS alot to extend the warranty but it is a move to avoid even heavier penalties at court.
