Sorry but to me consoles aren't about INSTALLING files. I will always feel that way. (slight caching fine, but required space to install files NO) Even if it does speed up load times a bit here and there..

Also 3 times is what... 3 times 3 secs? or 3 times 1 min? 3 mins is a bit extreme but 9 secs is nothing.

Like the review said...

"PS3 winds up winning out just slightly. It's not in the gameplay department, because DMC4 plays the same regardless of which system that you play on. Nor is it in the visual department"

If we are really getting down to load times to be the deciding factor in what is 'better' we have to start saying the basic truth.... they are about as equal in the end as 100 pennies or 1 dollar.
I was just wondering if that had something to do with it

Well 5GB install..... it probably does a boatload of decompression too. I am willing to bet that 15-20 mins isnt too far off from the truth. Even 10 mins is 10 mins too long, doesnt make deleting the files and reinstalling them when needed a really viable option. So you permenately lose that 5GB. I would rather a few extra seconds per load screen then using 5GB of my 120GB drive.

Sorry, Phoenix, but I'd rather wait once than have my action interrupted constantly by waiting. I can go do other things in those 22 minutes (like reading NGW, for instance?) while installing the PS3 cache for DMC4.

Go play Oblivion on PS3 and 360; it uses a similar sized perma-cache, and even there the differences are noticeable.

An action game like Devil May Cry having significant pauses in gameplay is a larger detriment than, say, a turn-based RPG or even a slower paced FPS-RPG like Oblivion, so there's that to consider as well. I know this was by far my biggest complaint about the previous titles; you go from frantically paced action into a... waiting screen.

In any case, I suspect the real time-bleed is in the room transitions, which occur very frequently. Won't know until I see the finished product in my hands this week, but I'll wager the differences in load times on new rooms is significant, as there's no way the 360 DVD drive can keep up with a pre-cached HDD.

but they have even said that the loading times are while loading cutscenes or new levels/room. And that its mere seconds. I know that any optical drive cannot keep up with a cached files, but 22 mins of time to install and a loss of 5GB of space for maybe 20Mins of time saved throughout the whole game? Not a great trade off to me.

But to each their own.

I thought console gaming was supposed to be simple?

I don't want to end up in a situation where I have to trawl through my game caches and work out what I'm happiest to delete today in order to get faster loading times between levels. If there's no space to install the game, then what? Are the loading times equal on both consoles?

Installation frustration is a PC problem. Don't let it near my consoles, bitch.

So what if the PS3 has better loading times, 360 owners are just LUCKY that it even on the platform.

One thing that will be interesting is which version will sell more. You got 360 advantage in USA and PS3 advantage in Japan.

The damage control in this thread is balls. No, the 360 version is not horrible or unplayable, it's just the PS3 version is better. Both versions are good.

When I first read the idea of "installing" the game onto the HDD, I thought it was a good idea as in the load times might be like 10 seconds versus like 1 second, but if it's 1 second gain here and there, I don't think it really makes a difference.
