I don't mind installing to hard drives, because it's usually worth it.

I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden Sigma.

Hardly damage control. Slight seconds in loading times isnt really a judge of what is better.

If we go to slightly, then there are many games that are better on the 360 because they load slightly faster. Or look slightly better, or even have slightly online. There is no damage control here at all.. this is opinions. I have always maintained since I have been at this site that installing to a HDD is the job of PC's (caching is one thing, but having to activily install and remove..) PS3 Fanboys agreed it was stupid back this time last year, but said that the space requirements and mandatory installs wouldnt become common place.... but they are and the sizes are getting bigger, for what? A few seconds load time. I would rather stay with a version that is 100% self sufficent and doesnt require anything but what I have already. I dont want to worry if my PS3 has enough space... (granted not every one will have that problem but I love to keep all my games and 40GB goes fast if you have a few videos, PSN games, music and a few full games that require 5GB+ for an install)

don't worry most PS3 owners don't buy games, so they won't have to worry about running out of memory

1 second times how many room transitions? There's 20 chapters in the game, and unless you're somehow godly enough to pass every single one on the first try, I suspect you're going to be doing a lot more waiting on the Xbox 360 version.

Granted, I'm sure it doesn't make the 360 version anything near unplayable (unlike the monstrosity that likes to call itself Madden 08 for PS3), but anyone who says that the load time between room transitions haven't been the weakest link in the gameplay for the Devil May Cry series is in serious denial.

I was just going by this. So not the full game but 8 to 10 hours of the game.

"Following that the opening load time on PS3 was five seconds against eight on 360. And then three seconds versus four, and four versus five seconds in following load screens, PS3 - 360. As you can see there's not much in it.

So over the course of an eight-to-ten hour game you might get your 21 minutes back over 360 players with ever-so-slightly shorter loading times. But really? "

I hardly feel its worth it. The load times on the 360 demo were by no means something you started saying... "omg, when is it going to load" or "damn this is taking too long". So taking 21 mins to save yourself 22 mins (and 5GB) or so during the course of the game is hardly a fair trade off or something to declare a winner over.

Now if it cached it while you played the first level and then it would be a nice plus, but still hardly worth calling that version better. If the gameplay and graphics are all the same and as far as BOTH reviews say short load times on both (with slightly faster on the PS3) then it seems pretty equal to me.

I could not care less as to what version is better on what system when its something as small as a fraction of a difference in loadtimes. I was just commenting that it hardly is a win for the PS3 with the trade off as it is.

I wouldn't go by the 360 demo is representative of how the final game will work. Remember, the demo was streaming off your HDD - if the full game is streaming off the disc, expect the load times to suffer accordingly.

The Xbox 360 12X DVD drive has a data transfer rate of ~16.5MBps.

The Xbox 360 HDD, like the PS3's stock HDDs, spins at 5400rpm, with a data transfer rate of perhaps ~150MBps.

Pretty big difference.

Case in point, the Ninja Gaiden Sigma PS3 demo loads blazingly fast, but if you don't choose the Install to HDD option, the load times on the actual game get quite annoying. Same with Folklore on PS3. The differences are instantly noticeable even if you're not looking for them, and both of those games use similar room-transition gameplay as Devil May Cry. I suspect - though can't yet prove - that we'll see something similar with DMC4.

EDIT: For those who are concerned about "running out of space" on your PS3 HDD. Give me a break, please? I didn't hear any whining about how Gran Turismo 3 ate up the lion's share of the space on a PS2 memory card, and if people can figure out how that works, I'm sure they can figure out how to zap a cache on a game they no longer play.

PS1 memory cards had 15 blocks

PS1 Football Manager games required 15 blocks

Just throwing that out there.
