I have a hunch apple will try to make it in the console market soon (hand held or stationary). And I think it can have to be a solid product given if they manage to aquire a development studio or tie some 3rd parties to them.

I think EA would be surprisingly successful in the console market. They have a LOT of big franchises and have the largest development team of any 3rd party organization. Plus Madden exclusive to 1 console would pretty much guarantee that console's success in US and FIFA exclusive would do the same in Europe, so they could do a microsoft esque strategy except just ignore japan, not even release their system over there.

I disagree with the basic premise. We want to move toward a more unified market, not one that's even more fragmented than it already is.

Gaming may be a multi-billion dollar business that is rivalling Hollywood for revenue these days, but you certainly couldn't tell in the sea of red ink that's been washing across most game developers/publishers/console manufacturers of late. This is due directly to the wasted effort in developing and marketing for multiple consoles.

And you want to theorize about adding a fourth player to the market? Horrors.

You just further opened the doors for a "2 console future:Which one would you drop" thread.

I'll let someone else. I made a thread yesterday and I don't want to saturate the place.
