Why would it need to cache online and remove loading screens?

Folding@Home is basically a screensaver and a handy way to view where PS3 owners are concentrated.
Well what about all of the other things the PS3 is being used for when it is taking the place of a computer?

I am just saying. It really doesn't matter how high a game is ranked compared to others on another system.

The biggest problem the PS2 faced was DRE, and not the Dr., if installing to the hard drive reduces the wear on the laser, then I'm all for it... as long as it's optional.

I've found when optional, I do it anyway, but there is no way in hell a console should have a mandatory install.

All I'm gonna say is I don't want to have to start searching up on games that I want to make sure my console will be able to play it/run it straight away. Gaming consoles are built for simplicity and I truly hope they stay that way.

Have you played Burnout? Offline, the game has no loading screens because, like GTA, it reads from the disc as you move. Online, it needs to keep track of 8(?) other people so needs to load all of the map. And it's seemless, you press a button and you are instantly online.

Sony COMPUTER Entertainment.

The fact you've been able to run Linux since the PS2 should make it blindingly obvious that Sony want. Sony have been about a home media centre approach. The PSP was a handheld media device, that plays games. The PS3 is a home media device, that plays games. You can actually buy PS3s with Linux pre-installed and even dev games for the console in Linux its self. Sony want to take over your living room. That's always been their goal.

FYI, the 360 is the only console without a web browser...

hence part of the reason I said the 360 is the closest thing to a PURE gaming console right now.

So far, it's limited to:

PlayStation 3:
Devil May Cry 4
Lost Planet
Everybody's Golf World Tour (which is confusing, I have the demo, it's not exactly graphically intense)
Oblivion (which installs why you play, rather than while you wait)

Xbox 360:
MLB 2K8 - requires a hard drive to download free stuff they couldn't fit on to the disc
Burnout Paradise - requires a hard drive for online play

Welcome to console gaming.
