That strategy has LITERALLY never worked in the market, ever. Colecovision is the only one ever that had any success, and their success was only modest, and a good part of that success was because they got Donkey Kong before any other home system did.

If a new company was to join, it would be wise for them to wait until the 1st of the 3 next consoles comes out. As long as the new company doesn't release 1st or last, they have a shot in the market.
