| WAY OF THE FUTURE!! ![]() I don't think I've said this enough: It was always Sony's plan to take over your living room, with all media aspects, not just gaming.

| yes, I know. Microsoft has the same idea. Thing with them though, they are the ones that make the OS that probably 80-90% of people use.

| But they have no intention of letting people use their consoles as a PC. PC licensing is a far bigger business for them. I think that's the only key difference though.

| true. Sony is going to way of making the console and PC the same thing. Microsoft is going towards integrating the PC and console together. The 360 is kind of like that, but I think in the next generation, the integration will be almost total. Like having your desktop on your tv, through your xbox. And I believe, at this point and time, that is the way to go. I mean I personally would much rather have a separate PC and console, but if they integrated like that, it would be perfect imo.

| Microprocessor technology will become so advanced that the most powerful supercomputer today will fit in a chip smaller than what you use in your desktop, so it's highly unlikely that we will have any need for specialized computers in everyday life. You'll probably just have one central system operating your entire house and all of your media.

| I can see the console merging with various set-top devices like DVRs, extenders (technically already possible with the 360), Slingbox-type devices, etc. Really, there's no reason these devices shouldn't be consolidated...why have 3 boxes by the TV? Of course, I can also see the extender being built into the TV, which might make more sense. In any event, I like where MS is going with IPTV, as well...this seems more like the future with interactive TV...I mean all the reality shows do this anyway with a PC...why make people run to their PCs all the time? As to the OP, it depends on what you consider a "console." I see no need for them to morph into PCs, though. Look at the dedicated media center PC...haven't heard of it?...exactly. It's all about the extenders now..one central PC networked with other devices....that way you have a single location for all your movies and music vs. all on different devices..you'd have to network them anyway.

| One thing i've learned from economics is if there's a demand, there's a supply. So the real question is will you guys ever get sick of gaming?
