Thats not what im saying, you missed the point. What i am saying is that if someone looking to buy a bluray player goes into a best buy and says I want a bluray player they may be led to a ps3 which may lead them into games.

Hmmm... but wouldn't you have to assume that the casual player even knows about BluRay in order for this scenario to work? Maybe later when BluRay is much more popular, would that be valid, but... who knows if BluRay players will be cheaper than the PS3 by then?

As someone said earlier, I also don't think Home itself will be enough to take people away from Facebook, MySpace simply because PCs = more common than PS3s in households.

Well i consider the Wii as an entertaiment hardware, while the 360 and Ps3 are more for hardcore gaming.

An Example:
A question to hardcore gamers like me: What would you like to play A bowling or tennis game or Metal Gear Solid 4 or Halo 3?

Excellent point valius, by the time hd tv's are standard, bluray players could be plenty cheaper.

And it seems that they already are getting cheaper, from info from the "no-BD on 360" thread, so that the PS3 may not even be recommended for the "casual person" who just wants the cheapest but most reliable player.

Brolly, it's a fair opinion to say that, but don't let that stop you from getting the worthwhile games on the Wii, since they do and will exist (in the case of some of the upcoming games I myself am looking forward to). Although people here will probably tell you differently, depending on the person...

The PS3 is a great console (I can vouch for it)... but it's too expensive and actually I personally think the interface for XMB is very intimidating for most new users, who might have only seen the much simpler and friendly Wii OS. It's clear that Sony has a little more expectations on the user's curiosity and ability to learn what options do what... though I guess for most people, default behavior would be A-OK for most people.

Oops... too much rambling there.

I like how everyone seems to painting the casual gamer with a very technophobic brush here. Just because someone only play games occasionally makes it no reason for them to not own an HDTV, have interest in Blu-Ray, or have even used a computer making them familiar with a more advanced and tougher to learn interface than a Wii and possibly even networking. These two groups aren't mutually exclusive like everyone seems to be thinking.

well it depends for what your into, if your mentally handicapped you will enjoy halo 3 and its famous basic online, if you enjoy femboys running around naked and poor plotline twists you will enjoy metal gear, and if you enjoy being normal you will probebly go for the boring tennis or bowling...

oh prob should of asked, what would i want instead as a hardcore gamer? super smash brothers or metriod prime 3 OR Bioshock or Uncharted Drakes fortune

that way you dont sound like your attempting to be bias and your view on what is a good hardcore game is drastically improved
