I agree with Piratethom.

PS3 has casual appeal, even if its just because Playstation is a household name.

The 1st 2 Playstations sold over 100 Million units a piece. That isn't strictly hardcore, in fact the majority of them are CASUAL gamers that probably own 5 or less games for each system.

Casuals cant be neatly grouped into certain game genres either. Some like sports or FPS or racing games a lot, which are usually fairly hardcore compared to some genres, so even XBOX has its casual appeal since it tends to have a lot of good games in those genres.

Not all casuals like Nintendo games.

These two groups aren't mutually exclusive like everyone seems to be thinking.
Solid point Boffo it seems whenever people talk about this they think ALL people are techno retards

Sorry about that. It's hard not to think that way when I've run into way too many computer illiterate people of all ages. There are professionals and people who have personal responsibilities who have families who KNOW about technology but might be considered "casual" gamers, due to how little they play or the kinds of games they'd have to buy for the kids.

The "casual" term is somewhat loose to begin with, so it's hard to say who exactly would be considered casual in the gray area. The systems programmer knows about his OS, but he plays only "casual" games with his kids... if we include people like that, then it's really hard to make the sweeping generalizations of casual gamers that's easier to make

On this point, just today, it was revealed that SOE are now answerable directly to Kaz Hirai.

Maybe that will help, this is the same guy would refuse to release Home because he personally wasn't happy with it.

This could be bad as well as good when your brand name becomes so generic that is becomes the norm kina like what happend with xerox all copy machines became xerox machines even if they werent. And to some people all game systems are playstation

oh prob should of asked, what would i want instead as a hardcore gamer? super smash brothers or metriod prime 3 OR Bioshock or Uncharted Drakes fortune

that way you dont sound like your attempting to be bias and your view on what is a good hardcore game is drastically improved
Your point is?

Where I live, I only know about 2 people with PS3s. Everyone else has 360s.

What is "casual appeal" by the way? What the hell does that mean? I think it's bullshit.
