Its typical of graphics-centric gamers to be perplexed at how well the Wii is selling. To them, a game with 'awesome graphics' *is* a game with 'great gameplay' because it excites them visually. The fact that the game is just another shovelware generic shooter is meaningless.

Like ive said before, developers know how shallow graphics-centric gamers are. They know that they dont have to put any effort into reforming gameplay (no risk), they just have make a non-innovative generic game that looks good, and it will sell to this demographic.

Although hardcore graphics-whore gamers over-populate the internet, their numbers make up a small percentage of the overall 'real-life' gaming community. Us genuine gamers are thankful for this.

if you are spending your time looking for jaggies on screenshots for a system you hate then maybe the games on the system(s) you own are too shit to keep you entertained.

Genuine meaning Wii owners? There are a ton of great games out there that are both graphically stunning and have incredible gameplay but yes there are also a lot of bad ones to (and those are the ones people talk about and rant about). Heck the OP of this topic is someone ranting about graphics and condemning the gameplay of a game they haven't even played, I'm willing to bet that most people who take that side with that argument also has never played the games they like to rant about on the internet.

Did you read the article at all?

The author clearly states and I quote:

"The fact is, Killzone 2 may very well be an excellent game -- but I don't know its gameplay potential, and I don't have the first clue because all I keep hearing about is how good it looks."

As a genuine gamer, ill assess the worth of a game after playing it. For some people, a small tech demo or some screen+hype on gamer websites is enough for them. I think the article is more of a dip at graphics-centric gamers slamming games that dont look 'awesome' more than it is others calling games with great graphics bad.

Did you read my comments at all?

"Also because the recent re-emergence of Killzone 2 seems to be the inspiration for this piece, I hope the person who wrote it does realize that Killzone 2 was there to be PLAYABLE by the media as the trailer displayed during the keynote was incredibly short and not the main focus of it being there. We all know the game looks great but they would only let you play it if game play and not graphics were the focus."

Gameplay from Killzone 2 here Killzone 2 footage from Playstation day - nexgenwars.com if anyone's interested in how it plays...

In my opinion gameplay is all that matters. Looks are just the frosting on the cake, and not truly a deciding factor.

It's called going to Gamestop and playing it...I don't have to look hard for them b/c they're right there the whole damn time. My Xbox games keep me entertained just fine, but you know I do make it out to the mall every once in a while.

You don't know what you're talking about. First of all, graphics are not my only gripe with the Wii--actually I have plenty of gripes. For one thing, I don't find the gameplay all that great on most games. Take, for instance, SMG...no camera control? Ridiculous. There is so much shovelware on the Wii, as well...with poorly executed waggle controls. That is not great gameplay. Plus, the Wii can't possibly support the level of AI that the other two systems can. And the online component is seriously lacking.

As for your comment about generic shovelware on the other systems...I'd like to know which ones you're talking about. cause there are some great games on those systems with great gameplay and great graphics....just b/c a game has great graphics and doesn't have waggle, doesn't mean the gameplay isn't top-notch.

That's crazy talk, you have control over the camera in SMG except A; events that force you into classic side scrolling Mario sequences B; when inside a box shaped room or tube. The directional pad moves the camera left or right and the C button centers the camera behind/infront of Mario. If your complaining about the inability to flip the camera upside down when Mario is upside down, name me one game ever that allows you to flip the camera upside down and you might have a point.

I agree with you whole-heartedly.

As a side note, IMO, the console with the most "shovelware" last-gen was the PS2. How many anime based games (TV series or just style) do we need before our bodies shrink to 1/10th it's size except our heads?

Comments Chibi?
