Now for once I will make a topic of my own. IMO there are way to few JRPGs coming to us. I probably shouldn't complain, because more JRPG style games are coming over here than in the good old NES days. But still they are released by heaps over in Japan (duh!) but few of them seem to find their way to western territories (even fewer to PAL territores). Now I know it seems like people either love JRPGs (like me) or hate them. Generally I like them because they are more like reading a book than playing a traditional computer/video game, a interactive book that is. TBH I think the only games that I can recall becoming even slightly emotional while playing are JRPGs. So I stand by my point that they are more like readin a book than playing a game (a very generic but still entertaining fantasy book most of the time). Now I just have to say that this is not the only kind of game I play but as of latley it's the types only types of games I find my self longing for to play when doing boring stuff like being at work. As I've said I used to be an avid FPS player (Doom 2 is the best FPS) but I got burnt out by them because the entire genre just became so stale and generic IMO. I also used to love platformers without ever getting burnt out by them, because for some reason that genre never started to feel as generic to me as FPSs where. But fun platformers are rare nowdays in my opinion, New Super Mario Bros was a nice addition that suited my tast perfectly. Same can be said about classical shoot 'em up games, even if they are probably the only genre that is more generic than FPSs I never stopped enjying them. Now I notice this post is turining to a full on rant so I'll stop soon. Just once more; where are the JRPGs? I mean they exist and it can't be too costly to just translate them and release them to the west. I mean the most expensive work with the game is allready made.

I'm really not an RPG fan at all, but this is one of those examples where you hope that the PS3 will start a new trend of consoles being region free. Especially for gamers in the PAL regions since they seem to be the one's that get screwed most often.

Yeah that would be nice but the biggest problem with that is that japanese games often tend to be, well, in japanese ![]() So even if region free is nice it doesn't help if a game that has a lot of dialouge/text isn't translated.

Uhm... The Japanese companies are all for DS development, and few games for consoles as a result. Oh and there was that problem of Microsoft paying off Japanese developers to put JRPGs on Xbox360 even though it doesn't sell crap, because Japan doesn't buy Xbox360 and most US Xbox360 gamers don't go for the JRPGs, straining the development process. Just for your interest the JRPGs out this year or coming up are... Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen(Wii) out now Opoona(Wii) out now Baroque(Wii/PS2) out now Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates(DS) out now Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII(PSP) out now Mysterious Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS) out now Rondo of Swords(DS) out now Drone Tactics(DS) out now Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time(DS) out now The World Ends With You(DS) out now Summon Night: Twin Age(DS) out now Etrian Odyssey II: Heroes of Lagaard(DS) this month Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift(DS) this month Mega Man Star Force 2(DS) this month Final Fantasy IV DS(DS) July Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon(Wii) July Izuna 2: The Unemployed Ninja Returns(DS) July Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice(PS3) August Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen(DS) September Rhapsody ~A Musical Adventure~(DS) September Infinite Undiscovery(Xbox360) September A Witch's Tale(DS) October Dokapon Kingdom(Wii/PS2) October Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia(DS) Fall Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World(Wii) Winter From the Abyss(DS) Winter And those are only the ones with semi concrete dates, and I don't pay much attention PSP releases. Overwhelmingly DS heavy, not to mention it's strangly heavy on the Dungeon Crawler and Strategy RPG sub genre. |

| Even if they don't your in luck the DS is region free, although find Atlus games 6 months after release date in a problem anywhere.

I'm not a huge fan of JRPGs but like every genre, I play at least one a year.
