Let me start by saying that this thread is more or less a curiosity that I just started thinking about, so don't go fanboy here. My question is this: take some of the best sellers on each of the three current gen consoles and put them on a different console...how would the sales compare? As an example, suppose that instead of Mario Kart being Wii exclusive, it was 360 or PS3 exclusive. Would it sell well? Or what if Halo 3 was Wii exclusive? What if GTA IV were on the Wii? Feel free to make up your own what ifs...and to speculate about what would happen.

I think it's safe to say that most of the big games would sell well regardless of what console they were on. Stuff like GTA, Halo and Mario Kart are all long established franchises that pretty much guarantee sales. The only ones I can think of are Wii games. Would Wii Fit sell well on either the 360 or PS3? And would Smash Brothers Brawl sell on either of them if it kept the online capabilities that it currently has?

Nintendo's first party stuff would sell on the rival consoles, no question. I sincerely doubt Halo 3 would sell on anything but the Xbox, COD4 would have sold in torrents on the Wii though. It's a case of the Wii's underestimated [and actually extremelly discerning] fanbase buying the quality stuff- GH3, for instance. When Reggie said LBP might be 'on the wrong console' I do think that game specifically would sell a lot better on the Wii, but the hardware gap is so huge it's nearlly irrelevant. Interesting thread, but a bit aimless =\ Did GTA4 not sell so well? All I hear is complaints about it =P I think it would sell moderately well on Wii, but if the new Saints Row turns out to be the better [read: more fun] game, I think it would sell better. How long before the developer support for the Wii shows up? I'm hoping it's soon-- Waiting for killer games is always hard though. |

Well as far as I see it there would be an odd problems with suggestion of Mario Kart "360 or PS3". Either it had Mario and sold well or it couldn't have Mario and didn't. This is mainly because I have to assume the Wii still exists, and Mario is Nintendo so the concept has problems. If it were Metroid I'd probably say it would sell better on 360 though. Halo 3 on Wii however wouldn't sell unless it still had the trillion dollar hype, because I know several people who went in for Eternal Sonata and can out with a Halo 3 copy because of the hype and store pushers. But even then I don't think I could do as well on the Wii. GTA IV on Wii is a suggestion that would work. Infact it would be the best selling version. As the GTA is a semi casual game series, same sort of audience as Madden and such. Combine that with a lack of 360 and PS3 version and sell as much as the PS360 version did plus some extras. Oh and if I made my own FF13 on Wii would sell better over all, but on 360 would crap out in Japan and maybe get what it would on PS3 for the rest of the world. |

I think this would be true at launch, but by now I'm thinking the 'core' Wii fanbase would have heard the criticisms and it would bomb. A lot of it's perception though- Just how many casual gta playing ps2 owners now have a Wii? | |

The thread is about judging the tastes of console owners.

I think rather than it selling well on a console or not, it would instead change the demographic of people who own the console. However, keeping with the theme of what would sell well, I think Halo would sell well on any, SSBB would sell well on any but GTA 4 wouldn't sell as well on Wii as it has on PS3/360.

I actually think Halo would sell better on Wii than on 360 or PS3 because of the consoles better FPS controls. In the same time I agree with Daver that GTA4 probably wouldn't sell as well on Wii (hard to explain why )

I could see Halo selling well on the Wii, but I doubt it would sell better than it does on the 360. Halo is the series that currently defines the Xbox brand and a large reason for that is the online play. With the Wii's online policies and the more diverse user base I can't see it selling any better on the Wii. The only thing working in it's favour is the overall lack of FPS titles on the Wii, but those that are available haven't blown anyone away with their sales numbers.
