Well in case you live under a no RPG media bubble you'd know what info SE has been throwing around of late in for Final Fantasy XIII and Star Ocean 4. But here's the thought If the PS3 has Final Fantasy numbered editions and XBox360 has Star Ocean, what does Wii get? Obviously, with the only named game still coming being FFCC: The Crystal Bearers, we've hit a snag. See the only game for the most popular console that's left is a side game original announced for it before it was popular. This leaves us with a big question, "What's SquareEnix decided to dump resources on since they learned that?" No, it's not Chocobo's Dungeon. I speculate since they had some media and stuff cobbled together, when they made that announcement back in 07, that it had already been started like 4 months earlier. This is ofcourse before Wii had it's mega popularity so.... Anyway What we have here is... Final Fantasy; stuck on PS3 most popular series stuck on leased popular system Dragon Quest; stuck on DS don't expect DQ10 on a console till '10 at the earliest Kingdom Hearts; stuck on DS and PSP also stuck there till '10 barring freak occurrence Star Ocean; stuck on Xbox360 This leaves... Final Fantasy Remake; Lets face it it's a fanboy pipedream, only FF7 would have the sort of impact and it's not going to happen. The only game in the series to have similar effect would be FF6 but still I say no, even though rumors of FFRemake flew around before FFIVDS was announced. Chrono Trigger; While reassembling the CT team would actually work now that Square and Enix merged, Chrono Trigger 3 is still nothing more than the second biggest fan rumor ever. Lufia; So the series has remained silent from the minute SE bought Taito, but Lufia fans can still hope. With the other SE big guns stuck on other consoles or just mythical rumors it could happen. Mana; You know if any one of these is likely it's this one as far as I'm concerned. The Bad is the last three Mana games suck, the last console entry and numbered one sucked the worst. The Good is Browny Brown the original Mana makers are a Nintendo second party, and even though they screwed up Heros of Mana the rest of their games have still been good even with a few flaws(Magical Vacation/Starsign and Sword of Mana). Parasite Eve; Rumors of this have been flying around since SE jumped back on Nintendo. Even though the GC died without anything, the rumor still floats. Plus with the Pointer a interesting battle system could come of it, never mind it could help the Nintendo needs more mature games thing. SaGa; Tell SE no unless they remake Romancing SaGa 2 or go back to its roots and try to figure out why it was original popular and fix the series. Other; Well I'm sure a Musashi game could work and a Project Wonder game could be a big bonus with the girl gamer audiance Wii has atracted. Other wise we are left with side games or series that have long since died. What you want a fourth Soul Blazer, a sequal to Actraiser that's good, and throw in a new EVO crazy talk that is. |

Well done for another great post ArkaneJones. I think another Mana would be most likely and I hope they do one. Last one I enjoyed was Secret of Mana on SNES which I really liked.

Just because the Wii has sold the most units, it doesn't necessarily mean the market is right for every type of game. There's a big difference between a FF style RPG and Wii Fit. Not to mention the fact that development capabilities are more limited for the Wii. I gotta imagine the die-hard FF fans will get a PS3 to play it, even if they already have a Wii...and RPGs are not really the kinds of games people just casually pick up and play...

Saying good third party big named game won't sell on Wii when there aren't any is big lode of hot air. Will you eat those words when Monster Hunter 3 is eating up sales in Japan on Wii? | |

The power of Monster Hunter is not to be understimated. Actually, Chrono or anything Xeno is a strong possibility due to the fact that the Chrono team (Monolift Soft) is now owned by Nintendo. (They're working on Disaster: Day of Crisis)From SQE, Wii owners have Soul Eater and the FFCC: The Crystal Bearers coming up, but there could be more. And iconoclast, if anything... deving for the Wii is MUCH easier than something like the PS3's multiple SPEs. Wiiware was an exciting thing for devs back in GDC, since the Wii was a platform that wouldn't absolutely break the bank. |

Akane is my favourite new junior. Good job on allowing a variety of opinions to flourish, boffo. Long live the non-psychofascist regime. On topic, S-E is focused on the same thing it always has since the merger, the financial bottom line. You can thank Wada for this, since it is his entire raison d'être. To have so much in dev costs sunk into the latest iteration of what is merely the #3 (and falling!) RPG franchise, and then have it tied exclusively to only one half of the lollercaust that is the practically abortive stillbirth of HD gaming would have been sheer fiscal suicide. Now, Wada can at least pray to recoup costs. For their part, Nintendo is beautifully unmoved. These machinations, which represent crisis-point decisions for S-E and have uncorked vast underground lakes of bitter tears from S-tards (and concomitant oceans of...other bodily fluids from Xbots), provoke no reaction whatsoever from Kyoto; save perhaps a mighty chuckle from Yamauchi's mansion, where the grand old man has finally been vindicated billions of times over. |
