I don't agree with the article at all but the following quote is plainly wrong: Quote:
Also if we take the current generation as a reference: Why would a XStation or PlayBox sell any better than than just the 360 or PS3? Surley less competition in the HD segment but my guess is that even if MS bought SCE the XStation/PlayBox would still have only sold 20 million units with it's years head start compared to the Wii that was released a year later and now have passed 30 million. Just my opinion though.

I also don't quite understand how it's just assumed that Asian gamers would automatically fall in love with the Xbox just because they bought Sony's game division. It's always claimed that a big reason the Xbox isn't doing anything in Japan is because they're an American company. Buying Sony's game division doesn't change that fact. This would probably just help to give Nintendo about 99% of the gaming market in Japan instead of having to share it. Plus the only rationale used for this idea is the fact that MS has lot's of money and could afford to do it added with the fact that Sony has been losing money in gaming. How many billions of dollars has MS lost so far with the Xbox? How many more billions of dollars would it cost them to do this? Does MS have enough money that they don't care if they ever make a profit from being in the console business?

I don't have facts to support the following statement but; Isn't it just recently that MS has started to make money out of the 360 consoles? And you should bear in mind that they have a year headstart over the other competitors (even if their loss per console probably was less than Sony)

I wouldn't buy SCE if I were Microsoft.

Except for anything released by Nintendo. Another question that could affect things is how much overlap is there between Xbox and Playstation ownership ie. how many people own both consoles? MS doesn't gain any additional install base out of them if there was only one HD console.
