I had forgotten that today was NPD day. Too much Home excitement I guess.

Thanks for posting those again. Some crazy looking numbers there, but I guess that's what a poor economy will do.

I'll add analysis probably tomorrow.

It's very nice to see that Wii Music did not do very well.

The highest November sales for a videogame console ever can be attributed to many causes, but I doubt a poor economy is one of them

Nintendo has the best console of this gen PERIOD, so it is obvious that they'll be selling millions of them.

Nintendo doesn't have the best console. They have the best appeal and gimmicks.

This appeal and gimmicks happens to be their console. Fire up Prolog and test it, it'll say Yes.

No, they do not. I don't see a controller playing my new copy of Super Mario Galaxy, now, do I?

Here is my long delayed, stats-heavy analysis of the numbers.

Obviously the big thing for the month was the Wii's numbers as it had it's best ever month by far(previous high was last December when they sold 1,350,000 consoles). The 360 more than doubled their previous high for sales in a month this year and had it's third highest single month total ever behind the last two Decembers. And the PS3 had only their 2nd highest sales month of the year(behind June and MGS4) and for the first time all year sold fewer consoles this month than they did the same month last year(466,000 last November).

So after the big month the Wii has now sold 15,391,000 consoles or an average of 615,640 per month. The 360 is starting to look like more of an also ran instead of a contender with sales of 12,447,000 or 336,405 per month. And the PS3 remains an also ran at 6,065,000 lifetime for a monthly average of 242,600.

For the year it's starting to look like the Wii should be able to reach 10 million in sales as it currently sits at 8,021,000 thus far. The 360 appears to have settled into 2nd place with two straight solid months and has now sold 3,296,000 so far in 2008. The PS3 is in 3rd for the year at 2,819,000. For monthly averages the Wii has sold 726,182 consoles per month compared to 299,636 for the 360 and 256,273 for the PS3.

All consoles saw an expected big jump in sales from October to November with the Wii increasing by 154%, the 360 saw a 125.3% increase, and the PS3 gained 98.9%.

Year over year sales show that 2008 could be on the verge of being a banner year across the board. The Wii and PS3 are both guaranteed to sell more this year than last with the Wii having only sold 4,940,000 through November last year vs. 8,021,000 so far this year. The PS3's sales of 2,819,000 are well improved over last year's 1,760,000. The 360 is the only one in question as this years sales of 3,296,000 fall just short of last years sales of 3,359,000 but are well ahead of 2006 when they had sold 2,795,000.

So just one more crazy month to go before we find out how 2008 will end. Just how high can the Wii go? Can the 360 hit 1.5 million sales in a single month? Will the PS3 ever hit 1 million? We shall see.
