Default Squashing activities deemed ‘violent’ may stifle creativity and cause academic issues

Squashing activities deemed ‘violent’ may stifle creativity and cause academic issues in young boys

“It doesn’t matter whether Mormons in Utah or lesbians in Cambridge are raising boys. Many of them play and think around violence. We might see them as doing something potentially dangerous. But actually what they’re doing is playing around ideas of courage and valor, good versus evil, and teamwork. These are ideas we want to inculcate in our culture. Little boys have all this action going on in their head, but they’re told it’s inappropriate for school. Then the teachers say: ‘Now write.’ I think what happens is little boys feel like they’re tied up, and you see why their teachers are pointing out that they aren’t writing with detail.” - Author Peg Tyre
One mother is taking Peg Tyre’s words to heart, and is going to loosen up on the zero tolerance rule she’s been following.
“I’m going to let them play with their toy guns and let them have their Nintendo back. I’ll hang back and see how it goes.” - Joanne Leuschner, mother of 3 boys and 3 girls
Told you so!

I'm glad people don't call the 360 "their Microsoft"

What kind of a mother is this? Everyone knows that studies show you need to shield children from anything and everything that could possibly be the slightest bit bad, or else they just get all screwed up by the time they're teenagers.

Teenagers will always be screwed up, either through exposure to nasty stuff, or through lack of exposure to nasty stuff.

At least somebody is finally looking at this from the other side of things. Finding positive side effects of gaming instead of just negative ones. Of course neither matter since it just depends on the kid. No game is going to turn a good kid bad, or make a bad kid good no matter how much "experts" want to try and tell us otherwise.

That's true. Gaming is no more influential to a kid than anything else is really.

Parenting is still the major factor in bringing up a child.
