Not talking about gaming forums here, please don't go into that. Every company makes a website for it's game. The internet is critical in the marketing of every game. How important is the actual site of a game for you? Has a game ever hyped you more because of a site? And to bring some fuel, I'll mention the excellent Smashbros site that was a daily part of my life during the wait for Brawl. And the site for C&C is pretty good as well, expecially with things like C&CTV. |

If it's REALLY good, I'm more intrigued. It has to have things to do on the site, though. Not just "here's some screenshots and news." Like, the Fable II website was awesome with its little mini games and such. Otherwise, I don't normally bother with game websites 'cause they're lame-o. |

I think the only game specific website I ever went to often was the Resistance one and that was after I already owned the game. It ended up being important because my membership there got me into the private Resistance 2 beta, although that came well after I had joined. Aside from that I don't think I've ever been to more than 3 or 4 game specific sites and have never done anything to affect how interested I was in the game.

| Blames the lag. |
Not important. I never use sites that are for a specific game.

If a site had daily updates about your favorite game, would that not hype you? Wouldn't you like to know more stuff about a game that you're buying or have bought? | |

I very rarely follow games anymore. I know what's upcoming and then I read reviews once the game is out, but nothing before or after. The N64 killed that for me. I'd follow games and get all excited about them, and then they'd be delayed for months and I'd be bummed out and then I got tired of it and bought a PS1. From that point on I stopped reading anything about upcoming games. Prior to buying a PS3 I had read next to nothing about the console and it was technically just an impulse buy. I didn't read anything about GTA4 until maybe a week before it was released. My list could go on.

The Smash Bros Brawl thread here sure generated a lot of activity, close to 10 000 posts, and most of it was prerelease talk generated by the official site. At times it was one of our most active threads (Alec knows, he's got almost a 1 000 posts there by himself. If an official game site can generate such amounts of anticipation, it sure is doing something right! Doing it wrong on the other hand is a waste of time and space... |

That's why I mentioned it. I know I sure as hell was hyped by it.
