Default Ubisoft Purchases Tom Clancy Name

Seems Ubisoft loves making the Tom Clancy games so much that they have secured the exclusive rights to make Clancy games for the known future.

Tom Clancy from now on = fail

The Gaming industry, society for that matter, has really taken leaps backward.

What are you talking about.

Ubisoft (montreal) has been making the Tom Clancy games forever. They have all been rated rather high. Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is no exception.

The only thing this new contract does is allow Ubisoft to use the name royalty free. They paid Mr Clancy a lumpsum to use his name versus a percentage of the sales as they were previously doing.

While it's true that the random Tom Clancy stuff has been going on for ever, it's still pretty sad that a name can be bought.

His books are all the same, maybe he should branch out and write some romance?

If you want to know about sad selling of names you have to look at a guy named Brian Heaton. He's been in the goalie equipment business for a long time. I think he started off CCM and sold his last name to them and made the "Heaton" line of equipment. Eventually through disagreements or whatever he broke off to make a new pad company with somebody else and used his first name and made "Brian's." Of course wouldn't you know it he had a falling out with them too. Them when he went to make his own company he found his name had already been sold so he had to make it "BHG" Brian Heaton Goalie...
