| So having recently gone through the dreaded RRoD affair, I thought it'd be a good idea to find out what others thought of their RRoD experience. I've rated it 1-10, with 1 being the worst experience and 10 being the best. Remember to consider everything that goes along with a repair, including customer service, etc. I've rated my experience a 7, and here's a brief description of all that went down: 1. RRoD on 2/28, call MS immediately...literally 2. Customer service was easy to understand, takes care of my issue quickly and apologizes for inconvenience 3. Box takes 7 DAYS to get to my house, so I received it 3/7 4. Give box to UPS next day (3/8) 5. MS receives box 3/15 (another 7 days for delivery) 6. MS ships box 3/19 7. I receive 3/26 (what a surprise, another 7 days!) 8. Plug her in, listen to her purrrrrrr. I don't know what's in the unit they gave me, but it runs noticeably quieter than before and I'm a fairly happy camper. Overall, MS was excellent (forgetting the fact that I shouldn't have to deal with this in the first place) and UPS is slower than an old man's poop. | Some of rounds1's personal (and common sense) RRoD prevention tips, just because I care. ![]() I see a lot of people claiming they're on their 4th console or the console they just got back from MS was broken the moment they turned it on. While all of these claims are perfectly believable, I can't help but think that some people may be inadvertently making their own situation worse just by the way they handle their 360. MS isn't TRYING to send out faulty units. In fact, I'd imagine that's the last kind of publicity they want. So what's going on here? Well, let me lend my personal experience and advice. If I can prevent just one RRoD from happening, I've done my job. Anyone's welcome to add to these as well, because I certainly don't claim to know it all. Now, the best possible position for your 360 to be in is suspended in mid air in a cool environment with absolutely nothing surrounding it. Of course, unless you're Magneto, these conditions aren't possible, but my suggestions are! 1. How close do you have your 360 to other heat-generating electronics? Get it away! 2. Is your 360 in close proximity to walls or stuffed in an entertainment center? Get it OUT and A-WAY! 3. Is your 360 in close proximity to a heater of any kind? Well, it shouldn't be! 4. Do you drop your 360 on the floor from great or not so great heights or do you generally knock the console around a lot? WTF is wrong with you?!?!? STOP IT! 5. How much dust is covering your 360? Clean the thing, you slob! 6. How hot is the room your 360 is in? The hotter the room, the hotter the 360, the more likely to RRoD. 7. Is your 360 in a room with lot of insects? Probably wouldn't hurt to get those little buggers away. 8. Do you play your 360 for hours upon hours upon hours per sitting? Well, I don't want to tell you to stop, but with each hour you're most likely increasing your chances for RRoD, so if you could at least give the console a short break every so often, you'll be better off for it. 9. Do you leave the disc in when you turn the console off? Probably wouldn't hurt to take it out, though, "shouldn't" be an issue. That's all I have for now, but following these general rules has kept my 360 lasting a long time until recently. Of course, even I can't adhere to each of these rules because it's simply not always possible, but the more you can stick to, the better! ![]() User Submitted Tips Mr. Chedabob's tips: 1. Broken 360? Chill the fuck out. Sooner or later you'll get one that works, and then you'll be able to live happily ever after. Thanks to Mr. Darth Alec: 1. Covering your 360 with general clutter is BAD. Keep it clean! Some friendly advice from one Mr. Cmdr Keen: 1. I hassle around with my 360 quite alot, to lanparties, consolenights and back and forth from my dorm. This inevetably lowers the lifetime of your xbox, most likely the already weak disc drive. Always take the discs out, Get yourself a decent xbox carrying bag (50€ but have been happy with it allready a lot) Last edited by rounds1; March 28th, 2008 at 03:53 PM. |

| A 9 surprisingly. My only gripe was with customer service, which was a bit of a nuisance with the "try this, try this" etc... before they deducted I had a RRoD. Basically, MS shipped out the box, I got it in about 2 days. I sent it into them on a friday. Now on saturday and sunday, nothing gets shipped. So they had to get my 360 on the monday at the very earliest. I got it back on the wednesday. 4 business days. I was really surprised, considering they said it would take "2-4 weeks", even after I said that I was close to the repair centre. |

| I have no personell experience (it lives!), but a friend of mine had his killed. He sendt it in, 3 weeks later, he got a brand new one. It died the same day. He is now going to return it to the store, get a refund, and buy a PS3.
