Gotta love xbox fans, what a way to say:

"I only started gaming when xbox was released, therefore i think that halo was the first successful videogame ever created."

In fact, the fps genre was well over a decade old with many successful titles. Just because fps happens to be prominent on *xbox*, doesnt mean that it is 'gamings biggest genre' -- especially when you are only 'just saying it because you think it (no evidence)', just like you probably think that the halo franchise is also gaming biggest.

List of best-selling video game franchises - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There isnt a single fps in the top 20.

Fact is, shooters have barely changed in well over a decade. More-so when you note that extra weapons and better graphics arent changes to how the games are played. Online play was available a decade ago as well. They are simple and easy to play games, targetted specifically at young males who are easily sold on technology speak, special effects and anything that runs on the 'unreal - i can make everything look like shiny plastic' engine.

If you think that 'gaming' means 'sitting in your attempted matrix setup room, laughing (out loud) to yourself trying to 'frag n00bs' online -- on your xbox'; you're not a gamer.

Sale are not everything, kind sir.

Also, it really depends on where you live.

I highly doubt fps are as big in Japan as in America.

Biggest genre doesn't necessarily mean best or even most successful. Just that there seem to be a much higher number of FPS's being released now. Most of them are just random cookie cutter designs that look and play like dozens that came before them. I'm not really an FPS fan, so it does annoy me when you look at the upcoming games and realize a quarter of the list is shooters.

I agree that FPS isnt really the biggest over all.. but posting that Wiki page is laughable

It says PIXAR as a game.... when its the franchise....

Mario is top.. I would hope so, its been around a lot longer then FPS's and has lots of different titles to included in the 200M.

I would say that in the past few years that FPS's get the most attention, and on PC they are right up there in the top 3 games with MMORPGS and RTS's.

Also I highly doubt ANYONE here started gaming on the Xbox.

.
Where does it say Pixar as the game?

Based on Pixar properties, the franchise includes titles like Ratatouille, Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles and Cars.

It's not the biggest genre sales wise, but virtually every game made today is a shooter. Plattformers are almost never made today. FPS is todays biggest genre. Without any doubt really.
