Default Star Wars in Gaming: A Retrospective

Gametrailers is putting together a compilation video of every starwars videogame ever created throughout gaming history as a lead up to the upcoming game: Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

So im putting together this thread based on discussion of the various games shown in the retrospectives periodic releases of new "episodes"

the first one was just the other day, and they are supposed to be releasing a new episode every 2 weeks until the launch of SW:tFU.

Movie 1: Gametrailers.com - Star Wars Retrospective - Episode I

total starwars games i have owned include:

Super Return of the Jedi--side scrolling classic

X-Wing--space simulation game, fairly neat....back in 1993....

Shadows of the Empire--another classic, take control of Dash Rendar, and kick the shit out of IG88. great game.

Rogue Squadron (series)--CLASSIC games, some of the best dogfighting ive ever played, shame they royally fucked up the last one cause they somehow got the idea that we buy rogue squadron for shitty 3rd player combat....

Galactic Battlegrounds
--basically AoE2 starwarsified. ok game, but not particularly great.

Empire at War
--newfangled RTS, a petroglyph creation (RIP westwood) sort of a real time turn based hybrid kind of game, pretty fun, but hard to get into...

yeah, so im not really sure why i just made that list. but since the next video isnt going to come out for like 2 weeks, we might as well list our SW games and talk about them here if you like.

Star Wars for the NES was the defining game for me. Platforming action combined with '3D' and top-down vehicle sections was lightyears ahead of it's time. I've spent a lot of time navigating the astroid field after you escape Tatooine. That section is the reason I invert the Y-axis on FPS games, after playing it for hours up=down and down=up.

Played some X-Wing and Galactic Battlegrounds as well. X-Wing was a lot of fun, but as you said Battlegrounds was just AoE2 with a Star Wars skin. Had some good times with it though.

I've only owned one star wars game(ep.1 pod racer), which is weird cause I'm a big fan of star wars.
EDIT: I forgot about Rouge squadron II.

Tie Fighter was a GODLY game! That and Rogue Squadron have been the best Star Wars games by far.

I believe I have all Dark Forces/Jedi Knight games, and a couple Rogue Squadron, and the first KOTOR, and Lego Star Wars. Oh, and X-wing vs Tie-fighter, although I didn't play that one much.

I've owned KOTOR, Jedi Knight, Rogue Squadron II, and played SWG online for about a year. I rented Shadows of the Empire a couple times (was an excellent game).

Jedi-Academy, had lightsabers done right, I loved that game so much. There were some pretty good mods for it as well.
