Before you go scoffing at that time line, remember that the original PlayStation lasted for over a decade, with the ultra-successful PS2 still going strong after eight years. With the PS3 also given a "ten-year life cycle," we suspect that's just the modus operandi for Sony's hardware strategy.

looking at that second paragraph i call BS. the PS1 was released in the US q4 1995. it was NOT, IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM, alive and contending in 2005, the year the 360 launched.

why do they continue to broadcast this lolz worthy shit? every time you begin to think sony are coming back to their senses, they make some other stupid assed press release.....

No need for announcements Sony, we already knew. After all, everything you make has this magical 10 year life cycle.

Revising models and such like they did with the PS2 sounds like they could make it last, but the sales will definitely start to show. Who knows, though. I know people who buy PSP's just to have all the different colors, and kids will undoubtedly beg their parents to buy them the "next PSP" for them.

lol10years.

I'd be happy with 4 years or so. Anything more is gravy.

P.S. Whatever they do, they need to kick UMD to the curb. Mini-Blu-rays, flash chips, whatever, but UMDs are noisy dust magnets.

Just when you think Sony are getting their act together and people are starting to respect them a little they go and release something like this? They just shoot themselves in the foot.

The PS1 did not last 10 years. Even if it was released in Japan in late 94, in Japan it didn't last till 04. I give PS1 8 years at most.
