Default October NPD numbers(only 1 week late. Not bad)

Hardware:

PlayStation 2- 136,000

PlayStation 3- 190,000

PSP- 193,000

Xbox 360- 371,000

Wii- 803,000

Nintendo DS- 491,000

Software:

1. FABLE II (Xbox 360) 790,000

2. WII FIT W/ BALANCE BOARD (Wii) 487,000

3. FALLOUT 3 (Xbox 360) 375,000

4. WII MARIO KART W/ WHEEL (Wii) 290,000

5. WII PLAY W/ REMOTE (Wii) 282,000

6. SAINTS ROW 2 (Xbox 360) 270,000

7. SOCOM: U.S. NAVY SEALS CONFRONTATION (PS3) 231,000

8. LITTLE BIG PLANET (PS3) 215,000

9. NBA 2K9 (Xbox 360) 202,000

10. DEAD SPACE (Xbox 360) 193,000

And now my highly stats heavy analysis of the numbers.

For the 10th consecutive month this year(and 13 in a row including last year) the Wii finished in first place. The 360 was 2nd for the 3rd straight month so it looks like the latest price cut is doing what they wanted. And for the 10th consecutive month(12 including last year) the PS3 has sold more consoles this month then they did in the same month the previous year. There you go. I found something positive for all three.

It looks like the biggest development to come out of this month is that the 360 has surpassed the PS3 in YTD sales despite the PS3 having outsold the 360 most months this year. Current YTD totals have the Wii at 5,981,000, the 360 is at 2,460,000 and the PS3 is just behind that with 2,441,000.

From here the numbers will only get bigger as November and December have traditionally seen almost as many consoles sold as the rest of the year combined. The Wii will likely pass the 14 million mark as it currently has sold 13,351,000 during it's 24 months on the market. The 360 will probably be passing the 12 million mark during this month as it has currently sold 11,611,000 during it's 36 month lifespan. And the PS3 should be able to pass the 6 million mark as it currently has sales of 5,687,000 during it's 24 month life.

Both the Wii and 360 head into the holiday season on positive notes as both had their highest monthly sales of the year during October, while the PS3 had it's 3rd lowest mark of the year. The Wii has shown improved sales over last year as it has averaged 598,100 consoles per month in '08 compared to 556,292 per month during it's lifetime. The PS3 has also improved by a bit seeing monthly sales so far this year of 244,100 as opposed to 236,958 a month over the course of it's existence. The 360 meanwhile continues to be well under it's lifetime average having sold only 246,000 per month this year compared to 322,528 a month over it's 36 month life.

Comparing past October's the Wii's 803,000 sales this month far eclipsed last October's 519,000. The 360 was right around the same as last year with 371,000 compared to 366,000 last October, both far ahead of October '06's total of 218,000. The PS3 also saw a solid improvement over last year's 121,000 sales in October compared to the 190,000 this year.

Year over year totals show the 360 remaining consistent through October in each of it's first 3 years. The 2,460,000 they've sold so far this year is just behind last year's 2,589,000 and just ahead of '06's 2,284,000. Both th PS3 and Wii have shown marked improvements over last year. The PS3 at 2,441,000 is still close to double last year's 1,294,000 and the Wii is over 2 million ahead of last year with 5,981,000 comapred to 3,959,000.

Good rundown. Lately I was starting to think the PS3 was slowing down, but its actually gained some speed, considering its the more expensive of the 3 consoles. I wonder if (Sony) they will drop the prices after thier sales surge from the holidays. And I also wonder how low the 360 will go. I was considering buying one, since I know alot of people that have a 360.

By those stats the PSP is doing crappy in the US. Odd that it only just beat the PS3. But then I guess there isn't really a Monster Hunter equivalent game on it of North America, so... It still indicates Nintendo is king, MS is second, and Sony last. Although it actually beats MS in combined system sales, it can't really count MS doesn't have a handheld gaming platform.

I think that Sony has all but abandoned the PSP in NA. It's still selling well in Japan, plus the last sales numbers I saw had something like 5 PSP games in the top 10 sales for the week. In NA I think you're lucky if there is more than one new PSP game launched each month and they really aren't doing much with the PSP/PS3 connectivity like they should be.

The sad thing to notice when looking at the numbers though is that while the PS3 is now in 3rd for the year, it's still hard for Sony to be overly concerned since they have the greatest percentage increase over last year with almost double the sales. Next year could be even better if they ever decide to get around to the price cut that people keep wanting to see, especially now that there are a lot of worthwhile games out there.

Wii outselling the DS!!!! Is that a typo or I'm seeing things?
The X360 is surprisingly doing pretty well.
