Kutaragi goto hell
Let me remind you that the N64 was more powerful than the Playstation but the PS1 sold 4x as many. Also the NGC and Xbox were more powerful than the PS2 but it too sold over 4x what either of it's competitors could manage and to wrap up my point I'd like to direct you at the Sega Game Gear.

I'm aware of that.

Is it possible to come up with a conclusion from all of this? The console with least power in any gen sells the most?!

The conclusion is that console sales have no correlation to how powerful the console is, so comments like this:

"PSP the technologically advanced multimedia handheld is failing against the not so advanced DS"

Are both stupid and pointless.

i'd even state the reverse. technological advanced console do have a correlation to their sales. and this correlation is a negative curve. people like simple and cheap consoles that do their job. eg: ps2 (worst of gen), gameboy (worst of handhelds back then), wii (no argueing about price/technology), ds (owns psp 2:1)

but the point is: they are cheap, functional and excel at playing games though lacking in specs. why would i buy a multimediahub when i just want to play a simple console game? nintendo understands, and sony/microsoft fail at this

If this was true the Dreamcast would have won last gen. Just look at last gen:

Order of sales: Dreamcast --> Gamecube --> Xbox --> PS2
Order of power: Dreamcast --> PS2 --> Gamecube --> Xbox

I really don't see a correlation at all. Put it in a graph if you want but you'll find no smooth line in comparison to power of console to sales of console.

i completely agree with keen here, most consumers dont need to be able to play music off their consoles (they have mp3 players for that) or watch dvd's (they have dvd players for that) or orgnaize photos (they have computer programs for that) or run linux (they have computers for that). in each case, consoles are an inferior place to be running said peripheral, so why the hell do we need to worry with them?

and on the topic of sales, according to media create, DS will as likely as not hit 19 million in japan this week

The PS2 wasnt that much more advance than the Dreamcast, even now, alot of games fail to compare against DC games from 4 years ago.

Also, the Dreamcast was released more as a onslaught against the PS1 not against the PS2 so it kinda falls in both generations.

But there is a pattern in the power of the console vs the sales.

More power means the console is more expensive, and the whole world just doesnt have $599 (or £424) to throw at a PS3 when a Nintendo Wii at $250 (or £179) is not only extremly fun but affordable for all.

lol I am only on the PSP side because people on the DS side are annoying and ignorant.

Syphon filter w/e, Loco roco, rachet and clank, MGS protable ops, new God of wars chains of olympus comming out, Gta stuff, Brave warrior, tales of the world, Kill zone, daxter. Tekken, lumines. Jeanne D arc, puzzle warlords, megaman powered up, burnout legends.ridgeeeee raceerrrrrr, tales of eternia, crush, Valkyrie profile, mercury, Final fantasy to name a few.

Good Psp, steal some of Nintendo's juice, even if it is only a little.

I enjoy both consoles but I prefer DS. PSP actually has some AMAZING games. (Not in america)

Anyway does anyone have current stats of the total sales?
