hmmm US works. I kind of can figure that Japan has a huge ds sale because I hear lots of funny jokes like they have a ds for every day of the week and they eat their ds's because they print money.

So US works.

well here we go:

DS
US: 12,238,200
Japan: 19,194,655
Total: 31,576,855

PSP
US: 8,118,200
Japan: 5,901,795
Total: 12,019,995

all numbers from MC or NPD

as said, japanese eat DS.....

DS numbers might be slightly off due to the fact that sometimes DS fat is counted and sometimes its not...

I think the reason on why the Dreamcast failed was because it was a little complicated looking.

I mean the controller had 2 slots on the back. They were kind of large, and the marketing by Sega wasn't all that great. Sega has never made that great of a console, 'cept the Dreamcast. I think what killed the Dreamcast was probably the Saturn. Though I did own two Dreamcasts and never owned a Saturn.

The thing that's getting the DS sold by many is people who AREN'T hardcore multimedia/gamers are buying the game for the Brainage game. I know of a lot of older girls I work with at work (older meaning adults 21+) who has never played a game before in their life heard about the brainage game and bought a DS just for that game. This is atleast 20 girls that I know of. I'm sure similar stories are the same, and maybe it's not the reason on why the DS is selling so good.

The thing is. There are like 7 Billion people in the world. Of that 7 billion, only about 20 million are hardcore gamers. That leaves a market of about 6,980,000,000 people. This is who Nintedo is targeting with it's two consoles. Not the 20 million hardcore gamers.

And a lot of games for the Wii fail in comparison to last gen games, what is your point?

Also, the Dreamcast was released more as a onslaught against the PS1 not against the PS2 so it kinda falls in both generations.
In the same way the 360 was released to combat the PS2 rather than the PS3. Great logic.

But there is a pattern in the power of the console vs the sales.
Then show me with a graph or some form of visual medium other than your words with no proof.

Quote:
More power means the console is more expensive, and the whole world just doesnt have $599 (or £424) to throw at a PS3 when a Nintendo Wii at $250 (or £179) is not only extremly fun but affordable for all.
Yeah so price has an effect on sales but that doesn't prove anything about power at all. The 360 and PS3 games look identical and according to many people the hardware can put out pretty much the same quality of games thus meaning that it is actually the price which is affecting sales rather than the power of the console.

In the UK the Xbox dropped to £50 at the end of it's life span while the PS2 remained twice that at £100 and still the PS2 outsold it, you know why? Because of word of mouth and games. The only thing that affects console sales are games, hype and price drops. At a consoles launch what it needs is hype which is exactly what the Wii got from the mainstream press and is exactly the opposite of what the PS3 got which can be seen from the current overall sales. During a consoles lifetime a console needs games and certain games sell consoles and occasionally there are price cuts which allow for a boost in sales for a certain amount of time. No matter how powerful or sub sequentially unpowerful the console is, these are the things that matter.

DS is at 47.27 million worldwide at last announcement (30th June 2007) but your US and JP numbers are more up to date, obviously.

At last announcement it was:

Japan: 18,110,000
Americas: 14,140,000
Others: 15,030,000
Total: 47,270,000

So it's obviously broken 48,000,000 by now... 50 million? Maybe.
