Default DS vs PSP Worldwide Sales, nonforbidden version

In response to the closed thead...

Nintendo DS (All Versions): 47.27 Million SOLD
Sony PSP: 25.39 Million SHIPPED

The Nintendo DS Figures are upto the 30th of June 2007 and the PSP figures are upto the 31st of March.

To get a more accurate figure by comparing the PSP numbers from Sony to the actual sold numbers from Media Create in each continent shows that only about 65% of PSP have been sold. Which would make the number estimated at around 16.50 million. Take these figures with a pinch of salt as they are now more than 2 months old and the PSP figures could be within 2 million up/down.

In conclusion, the DS is clearly thrashing the PSP right, left and center. Sorry guys, a handheld PS2 where you have to buy all your PS2 games again on UMD just isnt that appealing when the whole world already has a PS2

I'm guessing that the PSP took a little jump, cause I THINK that the 169 price drop happened right after that. AND they'll take another jump when the Slim model comes out. Either way, it's not enough to catch the DS, unless they do the crazy shit like release the camera, and whatnot.

The PSP is doing better than it should be doing, for a lame, slow (UMD's loading times are a real pain), overhyped, expensive and without a proper game library handheld.

I'm glad the DS is thrashing it. My only gripe with the DS, is it isn't backward compatible with the Gameboy and Gameboy Color games.

Yeah, the price drop will help in the US, but for us in Europe and the rest of the world, it wont change much. Both consoles are releasing the camera, and from what ive seen. Its Nintendo that seems to be finding its potential.

From afar the PSP Slim looks the same as the normal PSP and apart from being a bit lighter and a bit better battery, there is nothing different, so it should affect sales that much.

I dont believe the PSP sold total will hit the current DS sold number within its lifetime, its just not good enough

Near future being the next 500 years? If the PSP has only sold around 16 Million after nearly 3 years... Well, I dont think it will be selling as it is now, constantly for the next 6 years

Uh... for all of you who don't know, the PSP has been a success in a Nintendo dominated handheld market. I don't even own a PSP, I own a DS and I even know that.

From a financial point of view, yes. But Nintendo sets the benchmark for 'success' in the portable market and compared against that, its not even close.
