It's not underpowered, the DS is quite capable. It is at about the performance level of the N64.

You don't need 233MHz to play audio and/or video. But then again Apple has been very secretive about what is in their iPods, so who knows what the latest iPod Classic has.
The iPhone though has 620 MHz ARM 1176, which is a lot!!
If they would only come up with games for the iPhone, a mutlitouch game will be really awesome.

Speaking about phones and such: N-gage by Nokia is nearing its reintroduction. There's an early access program right now for those with N81 and N82 phones. It's not based on cartridges this time over, but DLC. I have some demos on my phone, and graphically its very impressive, but alas very clunky handling (a bit like what was fatally wrong with it the first time they tried). My guess is they'll be the first one out.

I never liked the old N-gage, if you want a gaming device get a PSP or DS. And if you want a phone, you get a Mobile phone. Not something Shitty inbetween.

Only leaves Microsoft (for the purpose of this poll) as the other two HAVE released a portable console. Now if it was worded, "Who will release the next portable gaming device?" Then of course that is refering to who will release the next one on market.

Wasn't Microsoft showing off XBLA games on the Zune at GDC?

According to them plenty of iPods have ARMs rated at 80 MHz or above.

The Nintendo DS has two ARMs one for DS games rated at 66 MHz and the other for backward compatibility with GBA rated at 33 MHz.

A couple of things worth noting here. The developers can use both ARM chips in the DS simultaneously, though the slower 33 Mhz chip often gets the burden of audio processing. The two ARM chips in the DS are all different. The faster chip in the DS is from the same family as early iPods but the newest models of iPods utilize a newer ARM design. Like the DS, the iPods incorporate multiple ARM chips into the design.
