I've just got Pearl. My first Pokemon game ever, I'm not so sure what to think of it yet. I'm not very surprised at how it works, like I said in other posts, I used to babysit kids that were ubber fans but basically is there more to capturing pokemons (I have 4 so far.. played for just 2 hours mind you) and battling to level them up? I'm not sure I want to venture online just yet, I'm sure I'll get pawned

I do know though that even if I don't have the headset with built in microphone, I'll use my earphones so there's no feedback.

That's the main gist of the game. You catch pokemon, you level them up, you earn badges at the gyms. There are lots and lots of side things to do to net items, rare pokemon, and provide general other forms of amusement. The game also demands social interaction since without trading you can't get every standard pokemon. (Standard meaning part of the regional Sinnoh Pokédex. The national one includes every Pokémon possible, most of which are going to require importing from GBA games, going through abnormally extra effort, or tapping in to a Nintendo promotion.)

(There's also cheating, but well, that's cheap. Not sure if Nintendo's implemented anything to try to prevent it in this new generation though. Gamesharks are a no go on the DS but save editing is a possibility. However the wifi end could implement a form of sanity checking..)

Basically it's all made far too complicated
Has that been confirmed though? Since you can link a UK Emerald with a US Diamond, I would've figured you could link a US Diamond with a UK version of Pokemon Battle Revolution.

Just picked it up. I haven't played since Yellow, so this should be interesting.

Basically, your whole team should be traded, right? Anyone up for some double-swaps?

Once you get to the town with the first gym you can visit downstairs in Pokemon centers. There you can get your pal pad (for looking at yours and putting in other's friend codes), and of course, go online. After that you can also start using the Glotal Trade Center in Jubilife city.

In case you guys don't read Joystiq, GoNintendo, or any other site that's noted this. Japanese playesr that have had the game for months are making AWESOME trades right now. Either for English names/Pokédex entries, or out of sheer kindness. I got a Japanese Chimchar (the fire starter) for a Machop! I made the trade offer just as a test and I go to get him back today and I got it. Then saw the news sites saying that this is kinda common. (Now I'm hoping to get a Pilup!)

Japanese players are fantastic. They REALLY like it when you "Engrish" the names. Calling a Psyduck "DANSTIN" will net you something decent.
