Pokémon Colosseum only talks to the GBA games, and you just need the GBA-GC link cable to do it. Not the player. And yes you can import from GBA cart to DS game. (And so you can get your Pokémon from Colosseum and Gale of Darkness there too in a roundabout way. This is the easiest way to get a legitimate Ho-Oh and Lugia.)

I took turtwig aswell.. though I too have all 3 thanks to people at work with DS and my IRC channel, trade bonus yey!!

only have 4 badges and I'v seen 94 pokemon, obtained 81 + a few I cant see in my pokedex like eevee, charmander, areodactyl, bulbasaur.. and so on :I

I wont leave an area till I check the monsters I saw in battle and catch them if they are in the areas I'v been to.

I've obtained both fossil Pokémon, Cranidos and Shieldon, in female form and am currently breeding them in the hope of using them to trade an Elekid or Magby with their corresponding items.

I've lost so many hours just trying to track down all of these different Pokemon. I've put in 36 hours and I've only won three badges.

I want my life back.

Their final forms are pretty neat. Grass/Ground, Water/Steel, Fire/Fight. They're all pretty impressive. The fire one's the best for raw damage but I've found grass and water to be more generally useful. (I normally bring one of those two into the battle tower. Azelf and Bronzong are my staples.
