Yeah, I understand what you mean. But as I see it, these event Pokémon are only 'extras', just put there by Nintendo to squeeze more money out of those obsessed enough to have them.
The only challenge I care about is completing the Pokédex, from 1-150. The National Dex is something I'm not all that bothered about, as you'd technically need to have all the GBA and GC games to get every Pokémon, or find someone kind enough to give you they're legendaries from previous games.
