I got another question for you guys, "Is this the best Pokemon in the series yet based on the previous titles you've played?"

The best trick is to remember that all pokemon present in a battle gain experience, even if they're changed out before they do anything. This is a great way to level up very weak pokemon or pokemon that start out with no offensive abilities. (For example, just put magikarp in front and switch him out as your first move. Of course it takes a while before magikarp is of any value...)

It's in your best interest to at least try to be somewhat even, or at least have more than one higher level one as it's all too likely you'll meet a monster your only high level pokemon can't deal with. (The game works in a very paper/rocks/scissors fashion. If your pokemon's dealing with it's weakness it takes quite a few levels advantage to have a chance.)

*Gets her magikarp out of the box storage and puts him (or her.. forgot ) on the front line*

Any tips as to deciding which pokémons to train and which to store?

Also, one of the "trainer tips" you read along the way mentions stopping the evolution of your pokémon when they do reach their evolution point. My question is: why would I want to stop my pokémon from evolving?

Magikarp was an easy example of one that's worthless for a LONG while. You might wanna wait until later on to level him up as he's garbage until he evolves, and does so kinda late.

Most pokemon learn more powerful moves as they go on, evolving or not. But there are some instances where you won't learn a particularly powerful move unless you keep the pokemon in it's cuter form for longer. The classical example (from the first generation) is Bulbasaur learning solar beam if you opt to hold off on evolving at the first opportunity. (Emphasis on first, you will almost always get a chance to evolve them again later.) The same also applies for creatures you can evolve manually. Pikachu learns a lot of speed based moves only if it's still Pikachu. Turn it into a Raichu and you'll miss out on those if you really want them.

Start with this, so you know your history.

Then go here, so you know how to deal with the present.

And remember: Stats > Type > Movepool

It's the hard way combined with peeking at guides if you're antsy. There are lots of secrets and tricks. The nice thing really is that for the most part you can always start over if you need to. Leveling, especially in the end game, isn't that time consuming a process. Hell, the hardest part of the game for me is finalizing what my main team's going to be. You never know when you're going to see something and wind up going "Okay I want you in my party!" ..... *hugs his Bronzor*
