Official Suggestions for New Admins thread

ok, im redoing the list again. this time its not so much of a suggestions for the admins as it is a running tally of all the problems this site has, as we know that the admins might as well never be back.

so this is sort of a guideline of what NOT to let happen when we all move to a different forum which i expect to happen in the next 10 days (counting down to april).wai


Current Suggestions:

• Revamp the front page
  • remove the latest reviews interviews and videos sections. we dont use them, and they only makes us look bad by being empty and out of date.
  • make the forums more visible from the front page
  • perhaps make links to some of the latest hot topics on the forum
  • links to latest sales info (sharky charts and sales page
  • fix the counter, right now, it resets to the hardcoded numbers every time you refresh the page
  • the 'who's online' section is wrong, it doesnt match that of the forums
  • clicking the link for who you choose to be the winner on the console bar doesnt work and leads to some ugly error code leaking through
  • keep it simple and small. the front page is not meant to be our focal point, the forums are.
• New News Section
  • the current one is a joke, the gigantic heirarchy of different sections insures that each section looks dead and empty. we are a small community, we dont need special sections.
  • make it so its posted instantly, we dont need mods to review the damned news threads before they are made, that only makes people not post news using the news function
  • make it so that you can just post news by being a member, we shouldnt have to leave a name and number and email and social security number and credit card number and mothers maiden name and first born's blood type in order to post news.
• Make a sales section
  • add section to the top site menu (Consoles, News, Reviews, etc)
  • put latest official sales there, they could even be put there as a sort of post, with the most recent at the top and getting older as you go down.
  • direct links to sharkycharts. aka, a place where the charts are the only things on the page, meaning i would need a place that i could put them.
  • links to all sales related threads like the Japan thread, the hardware sales thread, and each months NPD thread.

• Update the Forum Logo the the new one thats on the main page
  • its pretty stupid that we have a great logo on the front page, but we STILL have the old one throughout the forum....
• the signatures for consoles sold to not update and still have the numbers from summer 07.
• icon for consoles owned
  • (the first post here has a 360 icon under his name that shows he has a 360 and links to mygamercard.net this is an awesome feature and i would LOVE to see it here. if we could get that up and some sort of analogous function for the other 2 big consoles that would be an awesome addition
• place to input PSN/LIVE gamertag or wii code in user profile
  • this ties in with the previous suggestion. just give us blank in the edit profile page to add a gamertag/PSN ID/wiicode that will show up in that users personal profile.
• remove the 4 character minimum limit from the search function.
  • this really hinders searches especially considering we have LOTS of 3 letter words/acronyms like PS3, wii, NPD. thats not even counting game acronyms, this can become a REALLY long list.
• the "view single post" button doesnt work (the button left of the report button)
• the 'goto first new post" button in the user CP (the upsidedown ^) does not update after logging in.
• add a new calender option without the birthdays
• add more games to the arcade
  • also, fixing the tournament bug would help greatly
• increase the avatar file size
• monocrome/silver color scheme
• table tag
  • another thing that Tick Tech Forum - Index can do...
• require a minimum number of posts in order to make a thread (10-20)

i tried to put the stuff in a general oder of importance. i know none of it is ever going to get done, but i still think its best to have a running tally of just how fucked up our forum is....

Agreed on new scheme. even though we DO have the option to change it.

Talk more. I know you guys are super active compared to James thus far, but keep in contact. Tell mods at least a week in advance of new changes (James made this mistake).

I'm definitely for Community podcasts, updating numbers and what not.

However, the avatars are fine, both in posistion and size, there's nothing worse than websites that have some 120x120 avatar at the side. It's unclean. I feel the name and avatar being above reflects something like

"[User] now says:

Blah blah blah post turretguy"

Reverse whatever changes were made to the mods' powers.

Lift the image cap to 6 or 8.

I agree with PirateThom on the avatar size/placement issue. Actually, it's not an issue. It's a few people whining that their Paint-made Master Chief face isn't super-duper-high-quality.

i also agree with pirate thom about hte avatar size thing, i really dont think its that big of a deal (says the guy with the 45x45 avater....)sites with huge avatars look disorganized and unclean to me...
