Why the rules around the OTD fail.

I've just been plain fed up with the rules. Now I will be arguing against them.

Taken from the Shark Conversation Project Thread:

We have also sent stern warnings to a number of other members, warning them to stop their current activities, or they will also be banned.
Also, as part of our plan, we will be locking or deleting any threads that serve no real purpose. Their creators will get a warning on the first offense and a ban on the second offense. Spammy, one-line posts that serve no purpose to further the thread will no longer be tolerated! Furthermore, we have noticed an increase in the amount of trolling and insulting going on, and we don't want to see any more it.

First off, it is the off topic forum. Many, many threads are spammy, one-line posts because this is the only thread to do it in. Yes, some may be stupid, but if you take them away, it leaves hardly any humor.

From my perspective, the OTD was created to provide discussion about anything, music, sports, hobbies, interesting events, videos, ect. It was fun in the beginning, we had the freedom to do pretty much what we wanted in this forum that abided by the rules, which at the time weren't that strict.

Rules regarding spam:

5. Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and private message systems to spam other members.

25. DISCUSSION OF THE WAR IN IRAQ, RELIGION, OR OTHER, SIMILARLY SENSITIVE ISSUES is not appropriate for the forums, and threads and posts concerning these types of issues will be removed or locked.

This forum was created for all things unrelated to gaming, PCs and handhelds. If I wanna talk about the War in Iraq starting off with one line, I should be able to do it. I consider it to be entirely appropriate, seeing as it is one of the major events going on in the world.

I will now also use examples that prove that we should be able to do much, much more in this forum.

I think this is unjust. Sure it was before the SCP, but it served a purpose and was over one line.

This was a youtube video, which I found to be funny. I thought it would bring some humor here. It got LOCKED. Because it was considered as spam, it got locked, as will this thread in time.

The rules are good and everyone got used to them. Don't try and create an issue. The site has gotten way better since Shark Conservation Project, almost near the level of January and February of 2007. It's good again.

Spammy, one-liner posts suck and aren't worth a thread. If you want one liners and BS like that, put it in the 5 mil thread.

I'm not trying to create an issue, I'm trying to eliminate the issue that was made.

And it's your opinion that it got better, personally I think it's gotten more dull and boring and alot less active.

Why don't you join or make an off topic website? The focus of this site is VIDEOGAMES, not off-topic discussion. The off-topic forum was made so that users could chat about their lives, it was not meant to be the most posted forum on NGW.

And your point of the War is moronic because that will just create tension and flame wars between different view points.

Off-Topic doesn't mean spam. You need to remember that. Spam goes in the 5 million thread. Off Topic is about actual topics that matter. Predicting when you will reach 3k posts does not matter.

Your perspective is different than ours, therefore we will disagree and since we decide what goes on, you're going to have to live with that. Nothing has changed. Sure, I won't let you have people predict when you'll reach a certain post count, cry me a river. You can post things about music, sport, hobbies, interesting events, videos etc... People do everyday.

We tried it before and it was a horrible bitch fest with people throwing insults left, right and center. Quite frankly, it had it's test run and it crashed and burned. We decided this forum was best left with the subjects aside and that was that.

Not my problem, the most spammy thing about it is the replies it got. I, personally, would have no problem with it but if another mod feels it deserves to be locked, that's up to their discretion and I respect that. If you have a qualm about your thread being locked, discuss it with them over pm.

I will probably get banned, but I'm voicing my opinions.

Who cares? I make spammy one-line posts all the time, even the occasional stupid thrad. Sure, they get locked, but any thrad stupid enough to get locked is stupid enough to not deserve its own thrad.

I'm very disappointed, because it's like the SCP never happened these days. What happened to the "will not be tolerated" stuff? My main reason for the stupid posts that I make is to see if anything will happen.
