Unfortunately, and sadly, you are right. Most new accounts are alts of banned members, and we catch them sooner or later (that or they do something to warrant a ban no matter if they were an alt of not).

Shutting down the site and migrating to another place is a bad idea. Unless somebody like Phoenix does it, I don't think they'll have enough leverage to get people to move over. Only a few members will move, the rest will either continue on this site, or move somewhere else entirely (like god forbid, System Wars )

Best course of action, IMHO, is to lax up on the rules a bit. I'm not just saying this because I got banned. The rules have gotten too strict. We used to have loads and loads of fun going off-topic, and now even the slightest bit of O/T gets the thread locked.

Most of the rules aren't even enforced, so why bother having them? I've never seen the swearing rule enforced (well, i got busted once or twice, but there's rarely a day that goes by without me swearing at least once, and I don't have nearly 365 infractions ) , nor the signature length (3 people (me being one of them) had extremely large signatures yesterday). I'm not saying the mods should let people run riot, I'm just saying that people need to be able to express themselves without fear of getting a ban/infraction. One new member has already said that he felt that he couldn't post new things because of one of the mod's attitude.

As a farily "new" member I just feel I have to say a couple of words.

I started out as a lurker, as far back as the launch of Wii and PS3 (I don't even remember how I found this site probably with google), I mainly came here to get info and laugh at the insane flame-wars you had here on this site in the period around January and February.
I'm a MOD on the official site for a PC game (I don't use this alias there) and it felt so nice to watch the flame-wars here without having to do anything

What made me make the decision to join was a thread made by webshark where he was flamed to hell and back so I decided to join and make a comment and give some support to webshark.
Now I probably just annoy people with my posts

I would say what is/was the biggest problem of this site where the idiots that where loose here. Flaming new members chasing them away.

Unlike many others in this thread I would say this site (or at least the forum) has a really bad reputation across the net because people like vvvrooom, DICE etc where running rampart on the forums. And that reputation still holds after they are gone.

Also the current MODS on this site are great and you guys should give them credit for that. And I also think the current set of rules are fully understandable and reasonable.
If I would moderate this forum like I do in the forum where I'm a MOD you would think Rainbow, wii_waa, PirateThom, Power666, PHX, Juno, Neowolf etc (sorry to the ones I forgot) where saints. (and I say that even if I seem to get into arguments with PHX all the time).


But to conclude:
This site suffer mostly from bad reputation gained in the past because of bad rules/moderation.

Yes well said spindel, nice to hear an opinion from someone who is not to well known in the community, but has been watching from the outside for a while. And yeah ABP and NoScript are the best things since sliced bread, no adds ever.
