Default HBO or Showtime?

So, its been kind of up in the air if me and my roommate were going to stay living in our small ass college town, or move back to the city together. As of now it seems like we're going to be staying here. So, seeing that I have been wanting digital cable (the one with all the good channels, thus the thread name)/and HD cable, now that we are going to be here for a while longer, im finally going to take the jump. I myself have the assets to do it, plus the fact that im getting a job.

But the thread question still stands, pretty much for our US members/North American ones. What should I get, HBO or Showtime, or something else entirely. As of now, im leaning towards HBO, there are more shows that ive heard of/seen and like on that channel, but Showtime still has 1 show that I really really like (weeds). So, I would really appreciate your opinions.

Hold on, what? How did you have the "assets" before if you're just now getting a job...

Its a long story. Lets just say I have ample money in the bank/investments for me to have it, but since im not currently enrolled in college, im getting another job, so I will pretty much have bonus money to pay for my stuff like games/entertainment/fun/etc...

Must be nice. As for the topic, I have no idea. I've never had the desire to pay for "premium" channels. Out here with Cox, HD channels are free even. So, that even less reason to pay for those premium channels. Sorry I can't help.

HBO, but I could be biased since I've had it my entire life. You can easily download Weeds(if the recent season finale wasn't the end of the series as well). It's less easy to download several shows.
Curb Your Enthusiasm, Big Love, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords and Tell Me You Love Me are shows I recommend which have not to my knowledge been cancelled.
Cancelled shows that I HIGHLY recommend are Extras and Rome. Rome's first season is so good I bought the DVD box set and I do not buy things as a general rule.

Yeah I actually just finished watching the 3rd season of weeds tonight...downloaded of course. And I love CYE, and I own season 1-5 on DVD, I haven't downloaded it, and don't plan to. Also, I have heard a lot of good things about Entourage, and Rome sounds quite intersting. +1 for HBO.

Just move to Canada and get The Movie Network since it includes programming from both. That being said it's harder for me to differentiate between the two since I get everything all together. I know Dexter is really good on Showtime, but I really don't know what either network offers after their original programming.

It's not TV. It's HBO.

The only thing Showtime has on HBO is better movies.
