 Interesting facts about 1601 to celebrate my 1601st post Because milestones are arbitrary  Did you know that King Louis XIII was born in 1601? Alongside Pierre de Fermat and several other notable (seemingling all French) individuals. Tycho Brahe (a Danish astronomer) also died in this year - a name many of you will find familiar as the namesake of the Penny Arcade character. Notable events include the Battle of Kinsale (one of the most important battles in Irish history), and the first entry into the Forbidden City in Beijing of a Eurpoean (Jesuit Matteo Ricci). For some reason it's also the base year for Microsoft Windows file dates. I hope you all feel edumacated. Feel free to post other interesting things that happened in The Year of Your Post (TM). Maybe we can all learn something, and in learning come to appreciate our shared histories, cultures, ideals, and ways to move society forwards in a co-operative way, ending in a peaceful uprising against global oppression and the start of a new era of peace and prosperity. All starting here, at NexGenWars. Wouldn't that be a beautiful, tear-jerking irony? Oh yes

The United East India Company was also founded (with the stated intent of capturing spice trade from the Portuguese). Persia and Spain also declared war on the Ottoman Empire.
