As far as the feeling of abandonment here is an example:
dachen628 Administrator Last Activity: January 28th, 2008 10:36 AM

The head admin hasn't been here in over two weeks and Imram has been known to disappear for days at a time as well.

They haven't participated in discussion outside of the moderator board unless it has been directly addressed to them (like this thread.)

Basically after you sold the site, it was used for some horrid advertising with full paged timed ads, pop ups galore and annoying flash based ones (like the US Navy on appearing on the site nowadays). This continued for several months while other aspects of the site were broken. Phoenix left for an extended period of time due to business and pretty much all the communication with the admin team broke down. I don't know what happened but requests from normal users and moderators here went unanswered/unheard. The big thing that was never addressed were the numbers on the front page. Pretty much the impression I've gotten since the sale is that they're just using the site's traffic for ad revenue with maintenance/improvement of the site secondary.

Since Phoenix has returned, things started moving and a few things have been fixed. There has been a few things still being neglected and/or planned that have yet to take place.

The other note worthy thing is that the rules have been revised a bit.

Well I hope things start doing better I would hate to see this site die. I wish I had had more time and I would have made things better.

It looks like I still do, why? It would not be right of me to change anything since I don't actually own the site anymore.

They're not really attached to it, so I think if you ask they'd let you do stuff.
